How can I get into building without it feeling so arduous?

I tried building an old Roblox-styled cabin. I had a couple of references images to go off of. It was going well at first, but then when I saw the size of the cabin compared to my character, everything went downhill from there. I think one of my common pitfalls was missing the “Reality” part. I set big expectations and goals but mistook the process of building as easy.

So, is there some sort of universal design process that builders on Roblox use? Any videos I should watch? Articles I should read? Rules I should keep in mind? Notions I should remember, like not comparing myself to what I strive to achieve (better builds and builders)? Start building smaller things like objects and then go up to large-scaled buildings and maps? I think I’ve laid out my issues, but I’m just looking for clarity.

Can we see some pictures of the cabin you made?

I didn’t make much progress with it due to time constraints. But I wasn’t happy about the progress I made. Ignore the coloring—only used it to differentiate each part’s “group”.

To be fair to myself, I didn’t have much time to do everything that I wanted, and I just started building. But I think it’s just that, this is my first time trying to build anything fr. But it’s hard not to be disappointed over it when what I want to strive for seems so far out of reach. But maybe I’ll start smaller on my next attempt. For sure.

I have been building for a few years so let me share my thoughts. Building is a very lengthy process and there is no way to go around it. Over time you will get used to the process and be much more productive, but the best way to improve is just to build many things.

Since you mentioned this, just letting you know that proportions in real-life and ROBLOX do not match. For example, you need to make the ceiling and doors much bigger than real life or it will feel “small” when you play. Thus, making an exact copy of what you see in real-life does not work out in many cases. Most of my builds have proportions different from real life to accommodate for the ROBLOX environment.

For sure. I’ve also realized that the size being disproportionate is good for my game because of the way it plays. I’ve recently built a shed that I’m happy with, so I’ma keep going for there. I think I’ma reattempt the cabin. It’s a lengthy process, but rewarding if you stick to it. It’s the small wins that counts for me.
