I have a problem and that is that I am currently planning to develop a horror game, I have many ideas, but the problem is that I don’t know where to start, when I say to myself: “I’ll start by modeling the monsters” when I start blender suddenly I don’t know what do , so I’m undecided , do I start with the script, do I start with the ui, do I start with the map, do I start with the characters? I am undecided and I have not been able to advance much, what do you recommend I do, how do you get inspired to start?
A good start is to think of horror games that you know you like and figure out what choices they made that were good and what you would have done differently.
I start by writing a document outline all aspects of gameplay, the mechanics, and anything else in the game. Once I have a clear outline, I create a todo list with all the broken down tasks (usually in Trello). Once I have that, I know everything I need to do and just start with the most important/biggest feature
You start of by writing down 3 things at the top of your page in 3 separate columns: Name of game, Genre of game and the Objective of the game (for the players)
Then below that in the same order of columns write out the: What your game’s description would be, 3 Games similar to the genre which you want to use as examples and the target audience of the game
Then again in the same order of columns below write out: What you want to achieve, 5 Similarities with other games and the different player roles (teams)
This type of plan is not designed to be insanely detailed but it is as a matter of fact best to be simple; this plan will allow you to know a basic idea of what you want which will then allow you to make more detailed planning which i recommend HackNPlan.com for this so you can also track your progress.
