I’ve just created a health bar for my game, and I’m not particularly experienced with UI design so could I have some feedback?
It’s for Base Health so I’ve chosen the top of the screen as it’s position. It’s a planetary style game (if that helps).
I’m unfamiliar with “planetary style,” and I couldn’t really find anything on Google for it. Here, I’m just assuming you just generally mean space.
I like the rounded off ends. If you’re not looking to make huge changes to the UI then honestly I think it looks good. An easy change would be to slap on some sort of galaxy texture either to the foreground or the background
I think diegetic info (where you insert information into the game world, not into the UI) is also very interesting. You’ve might of heard of the North star
, people would use this to navigate seas or something idk
You could do something like the star changing color or position based on the player’s health, but there’d be a lot of challenges in displaying that indoors or conveying thats where the player has to look to see it’s health. If its a planetary game as in you switch between planets, this idea essentially becomes useless. I thought it was cool nonetheless.
You could look at Dead space’s healthbar as an unique example as well.
That’s probably a really bad example, but as I don’t know much about your game or general development experience, I can’t really give you much more. Again, If you don’t really care, It looks good. Maybe change the white to purple if you really want to lean into space theming
make it gradient, where if it is 100%-70 it is green, if it is 69-30% it is yellow, , 29-1% red…
maybe then and and overlay image of some space dust that sparkles
