How do I design badge icons?

I just can’t figure it out, I tried different coloring borders and all but I don’t get it. How do you make actually good looking badge icons? How do you make their backgrounds?

I like to use Canva or any other design program like photoshop. Just make a 512x512 square canvas and create your badge icon. If it doesn’t look good the first time, try a different design or size and see if it works out. Granted, I’m not the type of person that puts a whole lot of effort into badge icons.
