How do I gauge if my NPC Dialog is "Harassment" or "Too violent"?

okay so in my game, im planning to have random dialog for the NPCs, whether its them barking at enemies or taunting enemies during combat, and others, but this made me question “Would this trigger moderation?”

stuff like “ILL EAT YOUR LIVER!” “DIE YOU SCOUNDREL!”, “YOU LILY-LIVERED COWARD!”, “DIE, FILTH!” feels like it would trigger moderation, even though it would fit the late medieval timeline of my game, this is strictly for NPCs, not players saying this to other players

the new moderation changes and stuff make me a bit iffy and hesitant when it comes to blood already so i also went with a ravenfield approach to the game’s blood with team colored blood

i intend the game to be 16+ or 13+ if possible, though i think this is more 16+ with roblox standards, so its really confusing reading all the new guidelines that dont cover niche stuff like this

The blood seems fine for Roblox’s AI moderation standards as long as its not too detailed then they might give you a false violation, I do suggest to limit how direct the messages of the NPCS are to prevent a bad actor from getting your game falsely taken down

good point, roblox AI moderation is literally the reason why i have trust issues and questions, and also yeah, i am VERY aware of bad actors (wont go into too much detail here since thats not anyone’s issue)

i might drop the dialog idea tbh, it feels way too risky with how corporate ai moderation is

ok i change my mind on marking that as the solution, i just remembered there is like an execution mechanic in deepwoken with one of the bandit npcs yelling that the player is scum before being executed with a throat slice (CTRL + F: “auto-execute”)… *huge asterisk because its been literally years since ive played the game, so that might not be present anymore

which makes me wonder even more on the post’s title/question

like, my dialog issue is with indirect barking, npcs throwing basic insults and jabs as they skewer one another in a pike push or melee brawl, and deepwoken just has this insanely intimate execution mechanic where the foe has their neck slit or their face bashed in with a blunt weapon

im unsure if theres an exception, if there is one then i would like to know, like i said, roblox is corporate and AI-heavy so yeah…

If you have filled out the questionnaire for your experience accurately in terms of the blood use and dialogue choices it should boost your chances of not getting moderated by AI BUT I still wouldn’t trust any of that and if you can try to make your dialogue a little more “friendly” and avoid using any type of word possible that could flag AI systems no matter how stupid it might be I would honestly.

In the questionnaire there is a section which asks if your game has mentions of puking, burping, farting etc so I’d genuinely watch out. Prevention is key when it comes to handling roblox’s AI moderation.

yea im still debating with myself as i work on my game, cuz i have seen these instances happen:

  • people screenshotting a WIP image and then saving it as a decal/t-shirt so they can DMCA a game because technically they uploaded that first
  • people reporting the game for vulgarity even though its a comment in a localscript which is uh… impossible to see otherwise

AI moderation is terrible and roblox should honestly look into these cases more if they want to be a more respectable game platform (only reason why im here is because free game engine and servers, otherwise id take my custom rigs to godot or unity)

solution: i remain cautious and switch to more “teasing” dialog even though the NPCs are still cutting eachother up and shooting one another with horses involved, best not to poke the AI bear

Ooo, team colored blood is a cool idea. Reminds me of Splatoon, if it was darker lol.

Good choice, gotta realise too if you do get banned/moderated the average support response times can span a month+
