How do I target a simple realistic building style | help

CALLING EXPERIENCED ARCHITECTS !!

Though I wouldn’t consider myself a master at building, I would consider myself an experienced and moderate builder. I have 4 years working with Roblox’s studio.

Recently, I’ve found myself in desire for a more simplistic, yet real build style. I’ll link a video to what building style I want to target.

When attempting this style, I would often scratch the build because of two reasons:

  1. It was not the style I was going for
  2. Increments were messy or did not match up
  3. lack of knowing how many studs a specific structure should be.

Reference images do help, but they often lead to miss calculated increment sizes. I’ve tried using floorplans I found on google images as well too, but they are difficult to convert and proportion the measurements into studs.

Textures I find on the Roblox Toolbox are often the same. The majority of the textures are terrible, however not all are bad. With that, limited to only the good textures are not helping with mixing both Roblox’s default textures/materials with the texture pack’s textures/materials.

If you are an experienced architect, a response would be greatly appreciated.

My advice, as I’ve suffered the same fate as you before, don’t look at reference images too long. Don’t measure them, don’t look at your build side by side with the reference, and don’t try to replicate your reference.

In this style, simplistic yet realistic, making sure everything lines up and is uniform is important. Set your move mode and rotate mode to specific increments. I recommend 0.25 for most move/resizing and 5 deg for rotate.

Exactly what you’ve said to be honest.
The issues you’ve raised have affected me personally in the past

If you’re looking for realistic - make sure to use the new materials. The new cobblestone looks great and fits in almost anywhere in the build. Just make sure you’re using correct colour themes. I’d recommend making some sort of frame around windows - grey usually works quite well. You can layer windows to create more of a reflection effect on it. Use avatars to scale doors and walls to how you like it - add some sort of deviance with the roofs, add some skylights and angle the roof usually works quite well. There are a lot of different factors you can change when developing. I’d suggest messing around with lighting a bit and experimenting - Lighting goes a long way to making your game look better.
