How does the moderation work on assets uploaded under a group?

Hello! I am wondering on how moderation works on assets uploaded to a group.

Recently I tried experimenting on group owned games, when uploading assets (lets say a decal) in Roblox Studio using the Asset Manager the asset us automatically uploaded under the group that owns the game, and not on the uploader. (I think is is an intended behavior). I know that this assets even if they are uploaded under a group, the player that uploaded the asset is tracked…

Now, I have some questions regarding the moderation on this matter:

1) Lets say a developer uploaded an inappropriate asset in the group, and lets say Roblox moderated this asset:

  • a) Will the group be moderated because the asset is owned by the group? Or only the uploader will be punished? or the owner of the group? (In the scenario that the asset is not added in the game only uploaded)
  • b) In the scenario that the inappropriate asset is added in-game (the workspace for example) and the game is published, will Roblox moderate the whole game? the group? or the owner of the group?
  • c) How can a moderation of asset uploaded under a group affect the owner of the group eligibility to DevEx?

2. Question about when an asset do get moderated and the developer that works on a group game that uploaded gets moderated (or even terminated):

  • a) Let say an account is moderated (or even terminated) because of an asset, what happens to the other “unmoderated” asset that is used by a group game, will they just… disappear? or will they stay usable in the game?
  • b) Lets say a group is moderated (does this happen?) What happens to the game under the group? Will the game still be playable or will be game disappear (or unplayable) too?
  • c) Lets say again that a group is moderated, what will happen to the owner of the group, will the owner be moderated as well?
  • d) Lets say that the group is moderated and the game becomes unplayable, Is there a way that a game owned by a group still be recovered by the group owner and be uploaded again?

3. What would be the best practices to do in uploading an asset:

  • a) Will it be better to create a separate account solely for uploading assets? or is this against Roblox’s TOS?
  • b) When uploading assets in Roblox Studio using the Asset Manager, is there a way to upload assets on the account that upload it instead of under the group when working on a group owned game? Is this necessary to avoid affecting the group if an asset is moderated if ever?
  • c) How do you developers deal with assets when working on a group game? Do you upload it on the Creator Hub Website (this can be very tedious because you need to upload it 1 by 1) under your account and just insert it via Toolbar in Roblox Studio? or do you just directly upload it via Asset Manager in Roblox studio and upload it under the group (the asset is owned by the group)

Prior to making this post I’ve also done my research, but different answers has been given and I’m not sure what to believe in. Any help, idea, information and clarification regarding this matter is greatly appreciated.

I’m not too sure about the answer to your question but move this to Platform Usage Support before it gets taken down by mods

Thank you for the advice, I was thinking on where should I place it, turns out I picked the wrong category, I have now moved the post to the appropriate category. Thank you!

Yes, or well it depends. Normally the uploader gets affected and not the owner as far as i know. However, if the content gets reported as illegal such through the digital services act then moderators can decide to also lock the group for allowing such content to be hosted

I believe yes, the game can get taken down and the owner should get punished

I got no answer for this

I believe the assets stay. Keep in mind for UGC items, they should stay until your premium subscription expired and then they get set offsale

I believe games remain playable even after the group gets locked

I think so

Not sure what you mean by this question. Reuploading the game would be just bypassing the moderation action. I believe you can still contact roblox and submit a appeal for this

I believe this is technically against the rules under “Creating or using an account to avoid a enforcement action taken against another account” through misusing roblox systems

Hope this helps!

Interesting, it is somehow complicated how moderation works in relation to group assets and games. I really appreciate the information, Thank you!

1a) Only group owner (game owned by group > punishment goes to owner of group)

1b) Usually only game and owner, not the group itself (groups themselves are almost never moderated, you’d have to go out of your way to do that)

1c) Unsure, but I’d assume the owner would only get affected by punishments that affect them (and even then, only punishments that would affect devex such as scamming or fraud)

2a) All assets will stay alive as long as the asset itself doesn’t get moderated. Owner could be banned, uploader could be banned, group it’s under could be banned, the asset will still exist as long as that specific asset doesn’t have a reason to be moderated.

2b) Similar to 2a, the game will exist as long as the game itself is allowed. See also: all the old Roblox games that are hosted under long banned accounts

2c) The owner of the group would most likely get moderated, however that’s because I can’t think of a reason a group would be moderated without affecting the group owner (a group owner is supposed to keep the group within the rules, and if the group’s not within the rules then presumably the owner would get punished for breaking those rules)

2d) If the group is moderated, and assuming the owner isn’t (highly unlikely), I don’t believe so. I do believe there are ways to transfer games between profiles and groups, however I don’t know how that works and wouldn’t be surprised if it requires access into parts of the group.

3a) It’s a good idea to both have a throwaway host a group and only upload on alts (ideally seperate from the group holder too) if you want to avoid all potential punishments to your main account, but that won’t prevent group affecting punishments (holder banned, group banned) - Generally you shouldn’t need to do this if you’re within the rules (hence why you can easily tell if a group is uploading stolen clothing based on the group owner)

3b) I don’t know anything about the asset manager, but I do know if you want to avoid group related moderation as much as possible you should upload as much as possible to individual accounts (ie if a decal gets picked up as inappropriate it would only affect the uploader and not potentially affect the group if it was uploaded to the group)

3c) This is just a matter of preference. I don’t have a billion assets I need to upload all at once usually so just doing it the old fashioned way works best for me.

Interesting, I guess there is really no definitive answer regarding the moderation of assets under a group, some of the answers here are different from what Sound said (in terms of who will get punished yours is more on the owner of the group while Sound is more on the uploader it self). Still thank you so much for this insight, any information about this matter is greatly appreciated.

As a rule of thumb, instant punishments that aren’t for extreme offences are usually going to be on the uploader, while punishments later down the line are more likely to have impact (either directly or silently stacking up in the background) on the owner as well.
