How hard is it to make a racing game as a first project?

I want to make my first real game, but I’ve had no real success. I’ve had multiple projects come up and I get bored and/or discouraged. I’ve been on a break to avoid burnout, and I want to get back into game design.

I had an idea for a new game to make, based off an old game I played when I was little. It’s not super complex, you and 5 other racers go around a track picking up powerups to your advantage. The problem is, I’m worried it might be too advanced for a developer noob like me and I’ll get on the “Burnout Merry-go-round” again.

If it’s too advanced, I might just put it on the back burner until I get more experience.
If there are any kits or such out there that could help, I would definitely use those until I get enough experience to revamp it.
I’d like to hear your thoughts, I’m kind of stuck right now

I would suggest not doing a race game for your first game. Try doing something less focused on scripting and more on modeling. I suggest an obby and work up from there as you learn more scripting.
