How is Popular Worldwide different from Popular?

What are the differences between Popular and Popular Worldwide game sorts? They both show the same games in a different order, so what is the point of showcasing already already showcased games? It makes no sense, nor it is useful for others (in my opinion).

I heard somewhere that Popular is secretly Popular Near You now, so it’s basically Local vs Global. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

It’s popular worldwide among different languages etc. But still it’s more or less a really useless category.

I don’t really know about this, as it violates COPPA rules if it was collecting children’s data.

I don’t believe roblox can track your location without your permission they can tell however what country and or state these are the effects of privacy laws and some antitrust laws.

Oh yes, cause there is a setting like that.

Please elaborate are you taking about a setting for location tracking?

Yes. If Roblox does use that setting for what @TheCarbyneUniverse said, that could be true. But isn’t that setting used for languages?

There is no location tracking setting but the server can still tell what country the IP address is coming from. I think they have a setting for languages but that’s not an accurate way to tell where users country is because many countries are multi-language.

(Note there is a tracking option thanks @posatta)

Thanks, if this rumour is correct.

Agree. We don’t really need another sort with Adopt Me, I do not want to play it. We need more sorts that encourage game discovery and not just repeat the same old games again and again.

Or just introduce something similar to genre filters. That helps game discovery a lot. At least Roblox is doing stuff such as Recommended For You, which is quite helpful.

Agree, but yesterday Adopt Me appeared on there too. We need more sorts without that.

That’s true. I see several categories on the front page that have the same games like Adopt Me! and Bloxburg. Not saying these games don’t deserve their place, as a lot of hard work went into them, but it would be nice if the front page was more inclusive. I’d like to be able to see those bigger games once in the most appropriate category, and different games in the others.

Adopt me would only show up if you play similar games. It doesn’t show up for me.
Sorry, but I thought you were talking about the recommended sort. Oops.

I’m assuming the only difference is the code, because Roblox would not just copy and paste code to create a new sort. Believe the codes are different, but yield the same result, thus Popular Worldwide being usless.

I never played roleplay games, games about adopting a baby, or any games similar to Adopt Me in any way. I don’t know how did their algorithms determine that I want to try out Adopt Me.
In fact, I was once a tester for Adopt Me before it went so popular, and only when testing was it actually some fun for me. No offense is meant to the creators or people who like Adopt Me, but I just do not find the fun in it.

This kinda answers how the sorts are showing the same results.

Yes there is…?

@Ondrashek06 It might be similar in your country, but it probably varies a lot country-to-country. Try changing your location and comparing the sort.

Oh interesting I didn’t realize that.
