The first moments of gameplay are often the most important.
The spin taking 5 whole entire generations to wait for it while it VERY VERY slowly inches while not moving at all will instantly make a majority of players leave. You also CANNOT skip the tutorial to play so you’re forced to wait for that spin to finish even when its clearly not spinning anymore for 4 whole seconds.
Other than that, the gameplay is actually pretty alright apart from some oddities. The range on the weapons is not really the range I was expecting, it seems to be moreso longer ranged than expected so I can hit players from pretty far away.
However, as for any fighting game, you’re betting that there are enough players for there to be other players to fight against. Hence certain statistics may not fully reflect that issue. Some may leave early simply because there are not enough players to play with.
Players aren’t probably returning for 7 days because at a certain point the game just becomes click to attack and press Q for ability. While there are games like slap battles that is pretty much this.
However, the reason why slap battles succeeds in this game is actually pretty simple. It shows progress much faster and the gameplay ironically is a bit more satisfying imo.
Your game is pretty well polished, has effects, movement, animations, and other random stuff that makes it stand out.
But the gameplay itself seems clunky. Your attacks are super delayed (I understand this may be for balance reasons but it does make it gameplay feel more slow). Certain abilities curb stomp others. The range of weapons is pretty unclear. Spinning for weapons take years. Theres no reel tangible benefit in smacking others stats wise, only upon eliminations does there seem to be a benefit.
(Im using slap battles as a close comparison)
Slap battles on other hand has faster attack speed making gameplay feel much more fast. The first weapon that is given has an ability straight out of the box allowing you to dash out of the gate, making gameplay much quicker. The range is pretty easy to understand as its the range of the weapon itself. There is no spinning, just getting the weapon either in the lobby or through unlocking it by slapping, Numbers still go up by slapping an opponent, even if you do not eliminate them. You dont have to run away from a battle or play more cautiously since there isnt HP in the game hence more wreckless gameplay can be done + more slapping. A game that is simple but easy to understand, slap others and knock them out, or continue slapping to unlock different slaps. Its not a polished game by any means but it makes up for it with the simple gameplay.
TLDR:
As for what you can do to fix some of the problems:
Make the range of weapons easy to understand/tangible in difference. Currently players can extend their reach pretty far which makes gameplay slower as you have to time. Although this can be interesting, the lack of knowing the range makes it clunky.
Award players SOMETHING even if they do not eliminate a player, show numbers going up, numbers going up is still fun for alot of players, regardless of whether they lose. And if you want, award certain weapons or other things that make it a goal instead.
Speed up the spin, its one of the main parts of the game that give players weapon, making it more frustrating just to try and sell a gamepass often leaves a more sour taste and just makes overall gameplay for those not paying significantly worse.
Make the tutorial optional.
The lobby is a bit messy, try cleaning it up and making the entrance more apparent, I could see some players not exactly knowing where to go. ALWAYS assume the player knows nothing about the game.
Speed up attacks for all weapons, lessen the delay. To counteract any possible balance problems, just reduce the damage.
Give the players some sort of ability out of the gate. Even if its super simple.
Thanks for your feedback, I’ll do some of these changes,
also there are bots in the game to help with ccu/not enough players, ill add a few more just till ccu maybe grows
