How should I try to achieve Photorealism, with no experience in blender

Hello again, Devforum! It’s been a minute, and I asked this before when I was starting out professionally.

What’s the best way to achieve photorealism. I’d like to make the shift from my current style to a realistic style. (For example, Thisfall, Z0LL, and others.) I’m aware they rely heavily on lighting and textures. I can do the lighting and textures with no problem. It’s just making it look realistic. I’ve looked at the tips Thisfall has given on the devforum, but some of it makes no sense to me, and I just want more tips.

Edit, as I missed a large portion of my topic (oops!)

I have no experience with blender, and their UI change looks frustrating. Which version should I use (2.8> or <2.8), where and how should I start. (I’ve seen the donut thing, I can’t get do a lot of things other than that.) What should I be doing for transitioning into a realistic build style.

Any tips? It’s been a year, and there (hopefully) is more knowledge into building like these amazing creators!

Photorealism is a very well made realistic showcase and as far as I know is that it uses a variety of reflective parts and some very well made lighting to achieve the realistic look
You can achieve it’s realistic look by having good lighting, textures and a reflect effect

100% go for the most current version of Blender (2.82). If you don’t, you will fall behind on new features on Blender. Some good people I would recommend watching on YouTube are:

BlenderGuru (https://www.youtube.com/user/AndrewPPrice)

For the realism part, I would suggest to take a couple of months learning from channels like these. I would recommend making all of your meshes in Blender, rather than Roblox studio, because it is a lot easier to make realistic meshes in blender rather than studio.

For lighting, make sure you have it down. Lighting can make or break a scene and it is crucial that you should learn about HDRI’s and 3-Point lighting.

Textures are also important. If you already have some background knowledge on texturing, you should learn about PBR’s. They can give depth to your meshes and it really makes a difference when you use it on a mesh.

PBR’s will be rolling out in roblox soon and a better lighting system, and I would strongly suggest for you to learn about it.

For the image below, it is two of the same textures. The only diffrence is the one on the left is a normal texture, and the one on the right is a PBR. They are both in an HDRI, which is a spherical sky box that gives lighting to the scene and it effects reflections.

Wow! Thank you! That’s a lot of resources to play around with.

I also have a ton of PBR resources and make my own, if anyone wants some.

Out of curiosity, is there any way to get HDRI’s to work in studio at the moment?

I know you can texture a sphere in blender using an HDRI, or make a skybox in studio, but I honestly don’t know if they have support for HDRI’s in studio at the moment.
