How to join two UV sides together?

As seen in this photo, I have UV mapped a Goalie Helmet.


I am wondering how I join together these two sides without breaking apart the part labelled “x” and without making the uv faces stretch too much


Could you send a picture of the mesh in edit mode so that I can see the seams?

Instead of putting a seam down the middle, you could try clearing that seam and then instead putting a seam across the middle and separating it into two pieces that way.

You could also try putting the seam on the left or right side and seeing if that improves your results.
