I am working on a game, but I am scared that it will look too much like an simulator and die out because it doesn’t have more to it. If you have any suggestions/ideas to make it look more fun I will be thankful!
Doesn’t matter how your game looks, it will die easily if people don’t want to stay in it, simulator or not. If your goal is to make a fun game that is not a cashgrab, I recommend the following options:
Don’t put too much grinding in your game. Many players don’t like having to repeat the same thing for 3 hours.
Make sure the gameplay is actually rewarding. The effort and time people put in your game should have good results. Rebirth system is definitely not a good idea since it’s basically abandoning all the hard-earned progress just to get a tiny reward.
If you can afford it, let players go creative - build their own constructions or similar things, for example like lumber tycoon did. However, adding a building system can be quite challenging so it just depends on you.
In general, you should make your game depending on what audience you’re targeting. More mature players will expect what I listed above, while younger players will probably prefer the game not to be too hard.
