How to make those cool animation highlights

Solution!!:
I figured this was a little more simple to understand, the part with the surface-light should be facing your camera

You can write your topic however you want, but you need to answer these questions:

  1. What do you want to achieve? Keep it simple and clear!

i want to make highlights in my animation like how animator PMdamiann does it
(this is the image ‘thumbnail’ that i wanted to add these highlights to, clearly i already tried making some)

  1. What is the issue? Include screenshots / videos if possible!

the first animation of this video has the effect im looking for (how one person has that reddish outline kind of and the other has bluish)
video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwyV3WLrBME

  1. What solutions have you tried so far? Did you look for solutions on the Creator Hub?

i looked for solutions trying keywords like ‘special animation highlights’, ‘special highlights’
i also tried using pointlights and surfacelights, i belive this is how its made but i cant really find the same way how it was used
(i even tried AI but what was i expecting lol)

  1. (conclusion)
Clearly i have tried to make this effect and i just cant figure it out, many thanks to whoever tells me : D
also any other improvements of that thumbnail I’m trying to make (above), please tell me

After that, you should include more details if you have any. Try to make your topic as descriptive as possible, so that it’s easier for people to help you!

I’m very sure that the animation highlights are added with a video editor or other program

no it was definitely created from studio i just know it was, i saw a video of someone creating an animation with a couple animators without them communicating, i saw them use that highlight there (in studio)

cant seem to find that video though it would be useful wouldn’t it

i found the video i saw this in

at 9:59 seconds it shows the surfacelight, but i have no idea what the properties are mannnn
Edit: some testing AND I CANT FIGURE IT OUTTT

i don’t think anyone knows this anymore

I thought they just insert a highlight instance into a rig model?

There’s a few things going on here. Firstly, which is what you’ve done already with the character on the right of your thumbnail, is to add a very bright light to the side/behind the character relative to the camera - which gives some intense rim lighting.

Next, the characters have particle emitters. From what I can see, the particles used are:

  • A glowing flame which is feathered smoothly, and the particle emitter’s lightinfluence is set to 0 with a high brightness. The high brightness will go over the Bloom threshold and cause them to glow even more around the character. Make sure the ZIndex is lower, like -1.
  • A small particle emitter giving off those small dots/flickers of light, like embers.

Both of these particle emitters are cloned into every body part of the character.
