How to start creating games?

If you someone professional or finished any game(Especially story game), can you give me some tips?
Im a solo indie developer and i can do many things alone(It includes scripting) and my experience is 3+ years now. I have enough skills to create atleast a psychological horror game, but i cant even start to make them(I usually stop making a game in an idea step). I think its because of:

  1. Perfectionism: The basic thing. Im just scared to fail, even i know that failures are the part of grown.

  2. Trigger: I had very bad experience before(I was making a game for like.. 1500+ followers in 6 months)

  3. Idea: I dont really love and put passion into new projects i was trying to make.

I want to improve and build something(Like community or idk) and its the dream of many other developers.
If you can give me some tips - please tell me!(I will be glad)

I am not a professional, but here is my opinion, just guessing:

Well, You need to know that a lot of people fail, often repeatedly. Roblox game development is no exception. If you can’t take failures, then… still… only come to tackle challenges when you are ready for them, I guess :sob:

Anyway… I thought about writing a lot, but to simplify, you can mainly go two ways:

  • Figure out how to make a fun game yourself (by analyzing popular and not popular story games on Roblox, figuring out why some succeed and others don’t).
If you don’t understand enough about game design, the chance of failure is very high.
I feel that a lot of developers (that are not doing great) skimp on this. I think ignoring game design costs a lot (time, money).

  • Or hire someone (a game designer I guess :sob:) who knows how to deliver fun (has a track record of consistently producing fun (or popular) games). I am not the case in this regard :sob:
But even a professional game designer is not a guarantee :sob:

I think you should follow these steps, they helped me: What steps do you take in creating a game? - #9 by Nimblz

Heyo,

I am not close to being pro, but:

  • Make sure you have your storyboard drawn out FULLY

What type of story game is it? (eg, hunt for a item, choose your own adventure or a “endings” game)

Its like… Let him go/Other psychological horror games?(Idk how to explain). Its like one-off story games and if u complete it the story begins again(If u want to try again idk). I hope u understand

Try making small modules first. Find a problem to solve, and solve it. Maybe like a math library, or a subtitle manager. Something small that you can create and make working instead of a full game. You can get feedback from other developers who can help you with issues or give recommendations. This way you can build confidence whilst contributing to the community.
