How would I get motivation to start another large build? And where would I start?

Alright sooo… I’m thinking of starting another large building project to work on a sci-fi neon sorta like- synthwave themed city map.

I’m wondering what would be a good way to get started. Would I need to plan a lot of stuff out first or should I just start building and change it as I go on? I’ve tried getting started before but once I end up putting a few things down I change my mind and just scrap the whole thing.

I was looking for a few ideas for how I could sorta ease into it. (if that makes any sense)
Basically I just need a way to get started without deciding that what I have it bad and redoing the whole thing (since then like 2 seconds later I regret my decision lol) Help for a good way to get started would be appreciated! (my brain is kinda square so I’m not really the best at stuff like that and I usually struggle with starting large projects )

To be honest I had that problem a lot of times. Mostly it would even become a reason why some of my well funded and requested projects would literally never come out. Though, the only reason why it’s bad is because I had a deadline and it was a sponsored project, the thing is that if it’s your passion project and you’re working alone on it, you don’t need motivation! you can literally just work on it whenever you please!

A good way to get started in my opinion is to plan out the essentials of your game, make a Trello to-do list and finally, get in the studio and do whatever you have in your head, if you have nothing there though, what I personally do to gain inspiration and get new ideas, is going outside! I try to grasp each and ever little detail of what’s around me to understand how nature or structures work and are made.

So hey, it’s ok if you’re not motivated, just start it whenever you feel like it and whenever you have the right mindset

That actually seems like a really good idea! Thanks for the help since I’m not really the best with this stuff, I probably should be taking my time anyway. (edit: i also forgot trello existed lol)

As long as you can differentiate a hobby from a job, you’re good!
