I want to make a character creator that get runs only at the first time a player joins and can pick from 3 preset base characters and then saves permanently
So far i have tried to research how to make these with no help. I have messed around with HumanoidDescriptions, trying to load characters directly and i just cant figure out how to actually apply the character once let alone make it a permanent thing. Ive tried using remote events and such to signal a character choice to try and save it in a datastore but nothing ive attempted works. im not really sure what to try next, any help is appreciated!!
save each customization option as an Integer.
For example:
playerData = {
characterData = {
base = 1, --// Base Model
face = 43, --// Face
hair = 26, --// Hair
color = 5 --// Skin Color
}
}
Assign each Int (from 0-X, where X is the amount of styles for each part) and have the character editor work the same way.
Select option 1, set X Int to Y
After character creation is done, save the character (don’t save while creating it).
As for loading it, if you’re not using any skinned meshes, you can just store base models somewhere and load clothing/accessories onto them based on the characterData.
function loadCharacter(characterData): Model
local characterBase = bases:FindFirstChild(characterData.base)
local face = hairs:FindFirstChild(characterData.face)
local hair = hairs:FindFirstChild(characterData.hair)
local color = colors[characterData.color]
--// Parent everything & color character, set character etc etc
return characterBase
end
If you are using skinned meshes, I can’t help you because I have not looked into them at all nor do I care for them nor do I think they look good. They’re horrible to work with, look terrible and have literally no upsides to using them.
