How would I obtain the 2013 materials?

I have a game which is recreating the Personal Build Servers. I have most of the things from the time period but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the materials are.

  1. What do you want to achieve? Keep it simple and clear!
I want to find the materials from the mid 2013 Roblox client.

Examples:

  1. What is the issue? Include screenshots / videos if possible!
I looked in the clients files and could not find the textures at all.

  2. What solutions have you tried so far? Did you look for solutions on the Creator Hub?
I used search engines, looked at DevForum, looked at the locations content.Textures and PlatformContent.pc.Textures, and searched the entire client.

Most of the textures you are able to find online except Roblox Wood. The original wood introduced in 2009 was actually fully randomly generated, I wish Roblox had left the legacy materials in when they swapped them out in mid-2013.

Could you provide any possible places with the materials? I tried searching at multiple places, failing to find anywhere with the textures.

Still cannot find them, searched through the client’s files. Is it embedded somewhere?

Hi, I used the wood fallback texture from the 2009 Roblox client in order to create a material that looks a bit closer to the old wood material.

Thank you so much for your help, now I am looking for the other textures.

I should have a place file somewhere for you that has majority of the textures, if not, I’ll provide them to you. Sorry I forgot to reply to your previous post!

I think there’s a .dds file in the game files that houses materials, however I’m not sure.

By the way, good luck with your PBS!! SavePlaceAsync will work on the starter place a presume so you could do it a whole lot easier now.

I don’t personally think it’s in the game’s files, but it likely is embedded inside of the client’s files somewhere. Also, thanks!

Actually here’s this. Looks like somebody went ahead and did it already for you!

Unfortunately, it does not have the same time period materials. I will use this if I fail to find the original materials. Thank you for your help and time, though!

Original
Texture Pack

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, that is definitely the same texture just higher quality.
I think you’re under the impression it’s a different texture when custom textures all have the starting position, where the built in ones do not. Here’s an example:

Notice how despite the cobblestone blocks are the same size, the textures appear to be “different” whereas the custom 2014 marble is the exact same. @Frostism_Dev Also for the wood if you read in the post I hyperlinked the author states it has lower and higher quality textures for the sake of replicating lower-end devices. Hope this helps.

Sorry for something less obvious, here is it’s wood texture. It appears to be from an older version.

This is the reason why, sorry if there is any confusion!

Yes, but I noticed that none of the wood textures matched up. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think these textures are from 2009 or 2011.

As I’ve stated in my previous post, custom textures do not have different starting positions for their texture, it’s never offset. Only built-in studio materials do for some reason.

Old Roblox Wood is notoriously difficult to recreate since it was entirely randomly generated up until late-2013 when it was removed in place of the newer materials. Here’s an old video demonstrating the wood texture and you’ll see what I mean. Every wood block has a completely unique texture to it, it’s never the same.

Thank you for your information, one more thing. The grass in the client appears to have a different texture

but everywhere I’ve looked I cannot find this specific one. Is this one similar to wood situation?

If I remember correctly, the older Roblox grass was actually a double-layered texture, meaning the actual grass texture itself isn’t randomized (which is why it’s way easier to find textures of) but those lighter-splotches are randomly generated. I think it was to make it appear as if the grass had dead spots. You used to be able to toggle it on and off as well I’m pretty sure. (This is purely from my memory in 2009-2010)

Here’s some examples of the same place utilizing both variants of grass:

Notice how the last video has lighter patches of grass and the first does not.
