I have spent more days and weeks on my modeling, am I branching away from low-poly?

I feel like my car models are starting to become higher and higher poly instead of the low-poly style I was originally going for. The first image is one of my most recent cars, the second one is one of my older car models.

Well one way to keep the poly count lower is to plan for more of the detail to be part of a texture wrap. Instead of modeling in the lights and grill, simply put those elements of detail into the texture wrap. Windows (if not usable) could also be part of the texture wrap. The various “lines” of the car model could also be cleverly done using texture maps. To more accurately address your question though, it does look as if the 1st (more recent) image is a lower poly count. You should be able to check, in blender or w/e modeling software your using, what the current poly count for the model is.

Thank you for introducing me more about texture mapping. I was also just getting a feeling that I was going to transcend into higher and higher poly cars instead of what I was really going for. Thank you!
