Hey, i made a system similar to Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion or Doors, wanted to make a game of it, and i wanted to know if anyone had any ideas for the gameplay loop. Here’s a video of the game currently, you just walk into randomly generated rooms (if you leave a room through the only door it won’t take you back, it will be a new room) and search things for coins. Some rooms can be mirrored or dark to make the player question things.
The crowbar is there because i was considering adding enemies that you have to kill.
Aesthetically this looks pretty good. I like the sounds and the atmosphere. I think this can be a more quiet creepy horror game, not one of the thriller chase-scene kind with lots of running.
This reminds me of Concept 1 in this:
A randomly generated map, horrors to avoid, collecting items, searching for a way out.
I think obviously you need to make use of the exploration and looting mechanics of the game, it’s just how you want to do it–environmentally the darkness is good too.
Why are players exploring? Is it a puzzle game? Is it an escape game? Is it just how the map is, but exploring everything or the right things isn’t necessary?
Why do player collect items? Is it for winning points? Is it for food or tools? Just cause?
If I wanted to do something more casual I’d make it a creepy puzzle game.
If I wanted something that needed more player investment, maybe a survival-exploration-maze escape game?
Maybe you can even make it a story game.
