If I were to learn "Non-Roblox" Lua would I be able to easily translate that to Roblox?

I want to learn scripting with Lua and I found a lot of great videos that teach Lua but it isn’t done in Roblox. Since I heard Roblox Lua was different than normal Lua I wanted to know if I were to learn regular Lua and transfer it over to Roblox, would I have much difficulty in doing so? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Technically there is no such thing as “Roblox Lua”. Lua is just Lua. Yes, you can use most concepts in Lua outside the context of Roblox. I say most, because libraries like io, os, debug, etc, are either disabled or neutered.

And plus Roblox engineers are working on “Luau”, which introduces static typing and more. It’s practically a new language. So applying concepts from Luau to Lua may not work out very well but applying most concepts from Lua to Luau will.
