Importing Roblox models to Blender creates tons of double vertices and the model breaks when merging them

When importing a model from Roblox Studio into Blender, there are a ton of duplicate vertices. When removing these vertices, the model is shaded oddly.

model is from angelvamp

The initial model, which has 7,464 vertices.

The model after removing doubles, which has 2,146 vertices and broken shading.

The UV map seems to be the same after the vertices are merged, so it probably has nothing to do with the UV map.
Changing the shading method and downloading the mesh separately without a texture also does nothing.

oh yeah also the normals are messed up even before doing anything to the model
recalculating them doesn’t fix this

solved it

search for “Clear Custom Split Normal Data” then shade smooth
