so i’m making a new, non speed-build place (the place was origionally ment to be a speed build) version of this place:
can you guys help me with stuff that need to be improved.
just post it below so i know what to make.

You’re probably going to hate me for this, but try adding outlines in places. I feel that it will make the bricks in the stone pillars more prominent, and could improve the feel of the place a lot.
I feel like the vines on top look a bit too… vertical. Yes, they look nice, but it makes the structure look a bit more static. Also, they stairs don’t make that much sense. The top of the parts are a bit dented yet the edges of the parts look really smooth.
Other than that, the place looks awesome so far!

To me they look like they’ve been worn down by people sitting on them; old opera houses I believe did something like this, where they had open roofs and simply let the stone warm up in the day and then it would be warm to the touch at night.
yeah, the plants in general are pretty bad, except for the grass, maybe.
i was looking to make the vines and ferns like in the new place of shareourcups:
also, i will make each stone look work down with CSG. maybe i will post a preview later tonight.
Off-topic :
Hi Brick!
I always do outlines in my places, but change the surfaces to SmoothNoOutline by default (have a plugin that does this automatically on inserted parts and another one to do on existing parts to make this easy), and then I go in and add outlines to edges I want to stick out.
eh, i always keep the outlines disabled, looks too cartoonish for my liking.
i’m looking for tips towards the actual design and way it has been built.
and hi guest. <3
I mean, it’s hard to give tips since it’s not finished. For instance, “Have the hanging (moss?) grow onto the roof so it doesn’t look like it’s just there”, but “Was he going to do that and just isn’t done or no?”
I would however, agree with your description on rebuilding the terrain by hand – CFrame errors are always a killer for aesthetics ;c
I’d like to disagree with you that CSG is “lazy” though – it all depends on how you use it. Of course, you can slap bricks on a column and use CSG to cut off the excess, or you could, after you’re done, union the column together, and that isn’t lazy. I’d also like to point out that the end result is all people care about – how it got there is something that only you will take interest in. If lazy building produces a better result, then you should probably consider going for the lazy route. A good example of where you could use CSG to your advantage would be here:
The steps look kind of sloppy because the texture isn’t the same across the board – if you union it together, one texture will wrap around the whole step.
Saying CSG was lazy irked me a little, so I disagree with that statement too.
However, in contracts to what others said, I love the plant life in the showcase
thanks echo, i’ll probaby add hand-made terrain in the new version. the only problem with that is that i suck at it, and i suck pretty badly.
and urbanize, i added that to piss someone off, but i forgot to remove it.
also, i was thinking of adding banners, dusty red banners with white markings. once i finish that (if CSG isn’t being a pain) i will post a few pictures.
If all else fails, you could just resize the current terrain a bit over each chunk, and then use CSG to cut off the excess. But by doing that, you’d be filling all gaps and cutting all excess, so it would be seamless. To preserve collisions, duplicate the existing terrain and make it invisible – turn the collisions of the union terrain off.
i made a new banner for the place.
i still gotta add rips and tears in it, and a rail to hang it from.
I absolutely love the broken brick look. As echo mentioned, though, the material does look sloppy on the stairs. You should consider CSGing the stairs instead.
EDIT: Also it would be neat to see the broken pillars lying on the ground. I don’t imagine they rolled away or anything.

yeah, i made the place before CSG came out, and didn’t edit the pillars/stairs with it.
but i will use a lot of CSG in the new version, only to add more details.
also, ripped banners.
