The current form of the animation plugin has been useful for many developers in bringing characters in their games to life and making fun new concepts that would never be possible without the presence of the plugin. Unfortunately, however, while the animation plugin is certainly usable, one of its main issues is that it’s a plugin.
Because animations have to be built through a plugin, there’s a lot of things that the engine still can’t do, compared to if it were a part of the engine, and these are important things to have:
[ul]
[li]Undoing[/li]
[li]Redoing[/li]
[li]Saving locally[/li]
[li]Keyboard Shortcuts[/li]
[li]Better UI design[/li]
[/ul]
Animations have been incredibly helpful to developers for many months now, but if Roblox truly wants to open up more developers to the idea of using more animations in their games, then making it usable, understandable, and definitely more foolproof needs to happen. First-time users shouldn’t spend an hour on an animation, click away to another tool, and have everything disappear. They shouldn’t have to delete keyframes by holding Shift+Control+Right-Click (seriously, how much more convoluted can that command be?), and they definitely shouldn’t have to be going through a plugin to create a key component of their games.
His remake will fix some of the isues you mentioned above, like clicking another plugin on accident and having to redo everything, better UI design etc. You might want to post the other suggestions on that topic. :]
It would indeed be cool though if the animation editor were part of studio and not simply a plugin. But maybe one day…
I think both could be improved. The UI doesn’t feel intuitive to me. The old editor felt clunky when trying to select times on the bar. The ability to set increments would be a huge improvement.
