In a td game, should event special towers be forever

I’m trying to make a tower defense game and I came across a good and valid argument: should event towers be accessible forever.

Now there are two td games that are the standing points of this: tds (tower defense simulator) and tower heroes. First tds has 53 towers excluding admin, and 20 of them are event. That is like 35% of the game you’re never able to access because you’re not og. Also tds is a game heavily reliant on its strategy so not being able to access 35% is a big disadvantage. But it gives these towers value and motive to get them while they’re available.

Tower heros allows the event towers to be accessed in there respective season, so no tower is ever not available to you. But it gives these towers no value because of you don’t get them this year, next year you can get them.

But for me it’s not just seasons, something like a release party event or a 1 million visits event is what I want.

Devlog for game if you want to see the devlog: Devlog here!. How would you handle this?

I really recommend to make them permanent, playing these events would seem pretty boring if you don’t even get anything.
You could also hide any unowned event units from the index, if you have something like that in your game.

Absolutely. I despise FOMO.

Players should be able to obtain something both during and after an event, even if that something was an event exclusive.

Of course, methods of obtaining can be different between the 2, as long as it remains accessible it’s good.

Now, if you’ve played retro tower defense, it’s a really good example because it’s had event towers that you could get but after the event ended they made it apart of the game, but the people that had them got a special skin. But then again, it’s a gacha game where the event towers were “hero” towers that were designed to be apart of the normal game, so no one took them seriously as event towers, nor even knew they were event towers because all they did was put them in the summon feature,

I played it very minimally because its main unlock mechanic (From memory) was gambling, and it allowed users to purchase currency to then use gambling mechanics.

The game broke Australian law as well as other countries laws and I’m surprised it’s still available at all.

May have been another game with a similar title I’m recalling, however.

Yeah it’s just for this example Im not saying o want a summon feature in my game

Now there is another td game called brick defense that has a good system but I’m going on a road trip so I will look at that later.

Ok so in Brick Defense, there’s a tower named the wizard and you got this event tower in summer hardcore 2023. Then in summer 2024 they released it in the shop but gave all original owners an omega skin which is just a golden skin from tds where it just gives buffs and was a cool lookin skin. This is a good way of of still making them available to everyone but still awarding and keeping rare the original owners. Maybe I will do this but instead of buying it in the shop have an event shop with event currency or a special challenge. Just to be clear they did this with multiple towers, not just this one.

Yeah Im just gonna do what brick defense did while doing what I said i would do with it.
