Inconsistency in Reserved Server Region allocation (Servers starting in wrong regions)

Since last Saturday, (07/13/2025) reserved servers have been inconsistent with picking the right data center to host a server, and as a result, everyone in the server has poor ping (versus the usual, at least one player in the server has good ping). This has been happening in Volleyball Legends and has greatly hurt our gameplay in our Ranked gamemode

This issue has been reported by another large game, Rivals, but was marked as resolved because it was thought to be related to a data center outage. This is still happening in both Rivals and Volleyball Legends even after that outage was resolved

Below are attached images of players reporting servers where nobody has good ping, and the region is seemingly placed in a random location (Images were sent as of 2 hours ago). This issue is primarily happening in Volleyball Legends PlaceId: 134314141048307



Expected behavior

The selected region of a reserved server is based on the closest data center to the first player who joined the reserved server.

Yup, just wanted to chime in here & say that this issue still appears to be a problem despite it being marked as resolved on my original thread. It has a clear & definitive negative impact on a huge number of players, and warrants some deeper further investigation & proper metrics & analytics to prevent this sort of thing from happening again in the future and going unnoticed.

I wanted to follow up on this issue. The original bug report that was raised in mid-July was due to some temporary datacenter maintenance that has long since completed. You’ve both commented that players are still hitting this issue. We’ve had some new infrastructure challenges recently that you can read more about in this blog post. One of the solutions to those challenges is “cloud bursting” - allocating additional servers when our player-base requires it. We’re still fine-tuning this process. We took a closer look at servers for your experiences and it revealed a gap in our current process. We made an adjustment yesterday that has helped resolve this issue (for all experiences). We’re monitoring and tuning this process daily - please let us know if you see improvements or regressions

Just to follow up, it seems a bulk of the complaint is gone :slight_smile:

However, today there has been a consistent complaint from EU players that they have been getting worse servers

Hi. Any update on this? There are still quite a few people hourly reporting poor ping in our ranked games. With screenshots of everyone in the server having poor ping, as they are not matched into the correct server location

Bumping this again too, we’ve still been seeing this same issue in Rivals. Not as prevalent as it was a few months back, but it’s still not uncommon for all players in a server instance to have extremely high ping, and for none of them to have been placed in the correct geographical region.
