Incorrect Archival Email Message (Asking to remove items in good faith still results on warnings/strikes)

Around a month ago i tried to contact roblox to remove some assets that i made in good faith to avoid receiving copyright strikes. When you contact them they say this:
image

However i did receive a copyright strike for one of the assets that i tried to remove, so i did what they told me to do and replied to the email.

They replied and their answer was the very opposite to what i expected:

Expected behavior

My item should be removed, however i shouldn’t receive any moderation/copyright strike for it since i tried to request a removal in good faith months prior.

I never experienced this particular case but I had a simialr case where an archived item resulted in a warning. I wanted to appeal that because it was unfair moderation but support ignored my request.

There’s a very big issue with archiving items. There’s no reason ANY moderation action should be taken against the user unless the item is a “bypass” of inappropriate stuff.

You shouldn’t be banned if you upload a fake “dominus” and you archived it or tried to archive it.
The item should be deleted but the user shouldn’t be punished for trying to do something good and take the asset off the platform. That’s not the reason why archiving exists. Archiving was supposed to help users get rid of “dmca’ble” content from their account, and save themselves from a possible ip infringement moderation.

I 100% agree that the item should be deleted even if archived, but if the user WANTED to delete it they shouldn’t.

Not to mention Roblox moderation takes 0 action on 90% of the dominus/valks uploaded on the catalog once they’re submitted. How is someone supposed to know their item is breaking the rules if it just passes?

Please fix this issue and allow people to FULLY REMOVE items if they consent to. I’ve been trying to remove some UGC items from my sister’s account for months, and the moderation is unable. I have also tried to send a DMCA request myself BECAUSE THEY’RE MY IP and they won’t be taken down.

Please look into this situation, FIX IT and please don’t ban users for trying to do good. I would be very happy to see something happening. I would also like to link the items privately to a staff member that’s willing to help with this situation.

Thanks for posting this, and thanks to all the staff members that will look into this and fix this very flawed issue. The archival process was supposed to save people, yet it does not.

Currently it’s the best to not even archive your items. You’re just losing profit at this point and there’s no guarantee you won’t get banned.

I know Roblox is capable of delivering a good product here so please don’t disappoint us

Original post mentioned this:

(not to mention a lot of users lost their accounts because of this. Many thought that it’s allowed to upload them because no action was taken, others made their own different but inspired designes and still got banned?? and others tried acrhiving and archiving failed them)

Archiving an item doesn’t make you immune to moderation. Here’s a staff reply confirming this:

If you also check Roblox’s official Marketplace moderation documentation, under the “Archive assets” section, it clearly states:

An archived item may still be the subject of an IP takedown report, but your decision to archive the item will be considered when applying any account penalties related to the IP report.

This means moderation can still take action on archived items. Your intention to archive may reduce the penalties, but it doesn’t exempt you from moderation — and by law, Roblox must take appropriate action on infringing content once a valid copyright claim is received.

This report can be closed as the situation was already explained earlier. An admin confirmed that the necessary clarifications will be made — including fixing the “confusion around archive language,” which is exactly the part you’re concerned about. Due to legal and other reasons, what you’re suggesting simply isn’t possible.

For more information, you can refer to the following official resources:

Actually there’s two different ways of archiving.

Archiving through the creator hub:

  • Your item will no longer be discoverable in Marketplace and additional users will not be able to acquire it.

  • Existing owners of your item will continue owning the item in the inventory and can equip it on their avatar.

  • The underlying development assets for the avatar item will continue to exist, and you can still insert the archived avatar item into Studio if the asset ID is known.

  • An archived item may still be the subject of an IP takedown report, but your decision to archive the item will be considered when applying any account penalties related to the IP report.

Archiving through the create hub still allows the UGC item to be on the platform, but unable to be purchased or seen on the marketplace. This means your UGC is still subject to IP Infringement since it is still on the platform.

Archiving through emailing Roblox is a bit different. This process involves removing the UGC and assets involved entirely off the platform. This shouldn’t result in a strike because there wouldn’t be anything to strike you with.

That’s what i did; i tried to archive through the email (which is essentially just deleting the item) and in the email itself they said i shouldn’t get moderated nor striked for it.

Summary:

  • Roblox’s system of manually archiving in the creator hub dashboard allows for UGC items to not show and be unpurchaseable on the marketplace, but will still be on the platform.
  • Roblox’s asset removal system by email allows for content to be removed entirely off the platform with no strike or moderation action.

It’s also because you are dealing with a certain kind of DMCA which is from Roblox. There has been a recent issue going around where users would be DMCA’d by Roblox of domino crowns or dominus items. When those users would send in counter-DMCA requests, Roblox would:

  • Not respond in the required time for DMCA
  • Ignore users
  • Would respond but say that the removal of the content was appropriate. (Illegal)

Roblox is having a big issue with this and they probably won’t be appealing this strike because of this other situation going around where Roblox thinks they are entitled to decide whether a DMCA counter is infringing or not.

Thank you for the report. We have assigned to our team for further review.

Update: Support replied & reviewed my case, saw that i tried to get the item taken down beforehand and removed the strike. Thanks for the support, i’m glad they’re listening.

My friend ryan_theskyisRED is experiencing the issue, he requested deletion for assets 18663713463, 18663449809 and 18663720654 but still recieved a termination and strike for them. Hoping this thread can help him out somehow.

The era of archiving through Support is over — both because items archived via Roblox Support become invisible and users are never refunded. Due to this, all items archived through that method were reverted and “unarchived” after staff responded to this bug report:

Another reason is that there’s already a built-in option for archiving UGC items, so Roblox Support won’t want to assist you further with this. It clearly states: “You can only request removal of assets that your account owns/uploaded that cannot be manually archived.” Since UGC items can be archived manually, you’re not eligible to use that removal request option.

You can only manually archive the item if you have access to the group that archived it. What about the people who don’t have access to the group?

Also, the post you linked was for an old archive method which involved archiving the texture and mesh of the uploaded UGC item rendering them invisible. That isn’t even related to the new archive method that Roblox gave users to use.

Completely false. I got told the exact same thing word for word and ended up having to fight for my account for almost an entire year straight. Arguably dangerous misinformation but it’s not your fault, it’s just Roblox lying as usual.

Edit: Additionally, it was 2D clothing - in other words, there is/was flat out no other way to archive it.

Roblox really needs to rework this entire process - The entire issue revolving around archival wouldn’t be a problem IF you were still able to archive works after your permissions are stripped from said group.

For this pretend scenario, imagine you’d previously uploaded a copyrighted design, such as Nike or Adidas to a group for someone you were working with. It’d been years since you last contributed to this persons group - It’d either been locked, or you had left by now. Without permissions, you can’t archive anything.

Well, now you’re screwed, because once one DMCA comes in, you’re unable to do ANYTHING about the following eight recolors you had uploaded to the same group. Your best luck is emailing removal support, which (as you can see in this post) are both incompetent and lazy, taking weeks to months to reply to your submissions.

I ask again, Roblox, what is the point of degrading your creators.

Also, from what I know, the removal process directly from Roblox support doesn’t take 7 months, so why is the easy to access button form of this process taking so long. You’ve already told us that archiving items does nothing to prevent moderative action against them, so at the very least give us flexibility.
