Ever since the group search update, it has been increasingly difficult for many groups to gain members. Rather than considering the name, description, and member count of a group, it searches for only the full name.
Unfortunately, this is counterintuitively helping many groups which are potentially inactive or shutdown gain members.
Before, it originally looked more like this:
Here, you can see that the groups are ordered by their name, description, and member count. This system worked fine, as groups that have the most chance of appealing to the potential member show up on top.
Here is what it now looks like after the update:
As you can see, these groups are not ordered by group size, but rather by their literal name. It’s extremely disorganized and leads potential members looking for a legitimate group away.
Before I ran ads, my group member count was drastically declining, where I watched it drop from 5.2k to 4.3k members because of this faulty system in place. Furthermore, the group gaining members from the update now has gone up from 120 people to 210. This is extremely unfair because this group is very inactive and the other groups that work hard don’t get as much recognition with this system.
For these following reasons, this is why I feel compelled to see a feature where we can add initials to our groups, meaning it’d take the initials, full name, and member count into consideration.
However, if there is any other solution to solve this issue, it would very much benefit the greater good.
