Introducing New Tools for Your Community

Hi Creators,

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping Roblox Communities safe, civil, and engaging, we’re excited to share a couple new features, plus some additional improvements you may appreciate.

Category Permissions

You can now set role permissions per category in Forums.

This means you can now give certain roles different posting or management permissions for specific categories. It’s perfect for organizing different types of discussions and giving trusted members more control in certain areas.

To get started, go to Configure Community > Forums and expand a category to find the new Roles section.

Category-level permissions overrule global permissions, allowing creators to grant unique access or posting rules in specific categories.

Slow Mode

Keep conversations thoughtful and easy to follow with the new Slow Mode setting.

When enabled, Slow Mode limits how often members can post or comment in your forums. Users who post too quickly will see a short message showing how long they need to wait before posting again.

You can find this feature under Configure Community > Content Moderation and select from four options:

  • Disabled (Default) — Standard posting limits.
  • Slow — 1 forum post every 2 minutes, 2 forum comments per minute.
  • Slower — 1 forum post every 5 minutes, 1 forum comment per minute.
  • Slowest — 1 forum post every 10 minutes, 1 forum comment every 2 minutes.

Members with the Bypass Slow Mode permission are not affected, so owners and their moderators can still post at the standard rate.

Account Age Join Requirement

We heard your feedback following the release of Verification Level for Community Join Requirements, and we’ve added Account Age as an option to give you more flexibility.

Account Age lets you set a minimum number of days an account must exist before it can join your community. This can help reduce spam and create more trusted participation.

You can find this feature under Configure Community > Settings > Join Requirements.

Account Age launches with the following options:

  • No Restriction (Default)
  • 1 Day
  • 3 Days
  • 7 Days
  • 30 Days
  • 90 Days

Current members are not affected. This setting only applies to new join requests.

Lock My Post Permission

All users can now lock their own forum posts without needing a special permission.

To lock your post, click the ⋯ icon in the corner of your post and select Lock Post to disable new comments and replies.

Only the post’s author can unlock it later. Moderators and members with the appropriate permissions can still delete locked posts if needed.

Each of these updates are a result of direct feedback from this community. Your input helps shape how Roblox Communities evolve, so keep sharing your ideas and suggestions. Thank you!

FAQs

What happens to existing Community members if I set an account age requirement?

  • Nothing changes for current members. It only affects new joins and join requests.

Do roles need to have global forum permissions for category-level permissions to work?

  • No, you can assign category permissions even if the role has no global permissions, and vice versa.

What happens to comments on posts locked by their author?

  • They can still be read, reacted to, and deleted, but cannot be edited or replied to.

All these good updates are being released so that we can forget what you’re doing, aren’t they? Tryna butter us up?

Edit for clarity: One, this was a joke. Two, I was referring to both the shutdown of Guilded and the verification stuff.

Roblox in a year be like: “Hand over your ID to continue using the dev forum!”

But this update is quite nice!

Super awesome stuff! Already made my own private category where users can leave comments but not create threads. Will be very useful for update feedback!

It would be nice if people actually used them properly.

We need a prompt forum API… maybe so people can make feedback in the forum in game.

But I think they already have a prompt feedback API for likes and dislikes in game

What are they doing?
Are you referring to updates that restrict access to certain content without authentication?

i doubt guildedjared here wanted guilded to be shutdown

it’s in his name

if that’s what you mean, or the face ID stuff or anything else.. the point is this is an individual employee; they might just agree with you.

Probably talking about the face scan garbage they announced the other day

The update where you need to verify your age to do a simple task like chat

Tell me you don’t understand how software development works inside a company without telling me.

I don’t think he’s talking about that, but the Guilded shutdown.

(We all agree age verification sucks but the people behind this announcement we are commenting on probably has no idea what we are talking about so don’t be too mean to these guys)

Could we get some way to re-order categories? Some categories are more important than others so I’d like to be able to have them listed first for users.

Would love to hear more about what you need to get the most out of a forums API. We announced at RDC that this was in the works and we’ll have more to share in the future, but any and all feedback is welcome.

are there any updates on webstreamclients in rcc?

No ETA to share just yet, but we’re working on it. Thanks for your patience!

I would love this!

Now that I think about it, the difference between this announcement and prompt Player feedback is that forums allow for a discussion over feedback while the player feedback acts more like a private message to the developer that goes one way.

So seeing people having discussions over public feedback would be awesome and seeing what others wrote!
