Introducing the Game Fund

Hello, so I was really interested in possibly applying for this Game Fund, but I do have a few questions are to what some of you might interpret this to be… So first and foremost, the type of game that my studio has been working on is like an MMO and it’s already is pretty close to a pre-alpha. We already have some really insane graphics for it being roblox and it’s fully compatible with mobile and such. The thing that worries me about this post though is that the prioritization for the funding seems to match games that are like Adopt-Me and Brookhaven. At least, that’s how I interpreted the, “In-game avatars that reflect elements of the user’s platform avatar identity” and, “Ability to leverage ‘Metaverse’ items”. This sounds like Roblox wants to let the players use their own avatar and be able to wear the stuff from their marketplace. Not that it’s inherently a bad thing, but even the, “Social mechanics as key to the experience” seems like it is pressing towards a social aspect for a game. Not that a MMO type of a game isn’t social. As there are grouping, raiding, guilds, and possibly other aspects of a MMO that require players to interact. The FAQ states that the criteria for picking said games would be, “innovative gameplay”, “ambitious visual designs”, and “creative ideas” yet the prioritization seems to lean more towards what I had mentioned before. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it or would anyone else like to give their speculation? My studio still intends on applying for this even if our game doesn’t exactly match what they’re looking for. But regardless we’re creating something absolutely amazing for Roblox. Thanks and sorry this turned more into a rant, hopefully I get a lot of opinions from you all on the speculations!

I think they are going for games that use Roblox avatars (+ support RTHRO) and have amazing visuals (other than the avatar).

Are there going to be Zoom Calls with Facecams involved?

This isn’t part of the requirements so I don’t think so.

Actually, the post is perplexing. Especially when large sums of money are involved.

However, there would be no reason for Zoom calls since this is for funding projects. All communication is likely to be done through email.

See, that’s what I thought as well. My studio started out with wanting to use the base Roblox avatars, but the issue with this is… They simply didn’t really match the environment too much (At least in my opinion). We have a cartoony vibe but only the mesh rig really matches it a bit. I guess RTHRO might be pretty good for it as well. There’s also the possibility of just creating our own characters and setting them up for R15 so they can be used, but that also has problems as well. We were moving towards really high quality characters and have pretty much gotten them setup. It would seem as though we would possibly want to digress and go back to roblox characters for the chances of this game fund though.

I agree. Premium users tend to be more mature, and games that cater to mature players need to be rewarded well.

Not only that, but all games should be rewarded, and more mature games need to be allowed on the platform.

While they do tend to take less risks (because of terminations etc.) there are still some that act incredibly immaturily.

In addition to the project description in your pitch deck, we want to know any details you wish to share about you and/or your team’s development experience, past successes, or other qualifications that you want to call out.

Generally speaking, this can be the case, though many Premium users are still just as immature as regular users. I do agree with the games that cater to mature players being rewarded well, as we do not see enough of these on the Roblox platform. Actually, all games should be rewarded more. However, I feel Roblox needs more mature games in general, as to cater their game to all audiences.

Hi, mkivtt!

My team has a few questions about this opportunity. First, would you please clarify what the last 3 bulletins on the prioritization list are about? Secondly, what exactly does “define key deliverables” mean? Lastly, if we were to be selected, what kind of “partnership” would our selected project have with Roblox? Thank you for taking the time to read our concerns.

umm , ya I have not read through the billion posts, but is it really $500,000 ROBUCKS??? eh… I read this when there were no reply’s… that was my first thought…since they do not specify the currency… doh…

They mentioned the currency by saying it’s a minimum of 500,000 USD per project.

The $ sign at the beginning marks it as USD. Either way, 500k robux is almost 2k dollars and still plenty to work with in terms of a one-time commission.

This is just crazy!
I see an opportunity for a number of ‘never seen before’ game mechanics enter Roblox.

I can’t wait to see what this leads to!

Is it okay if our whole team isn’t 18+, but the manager is? Our team really wants to apply for this, but not all of our team members are 18.

$500,000 USD is a lot of money in my country (around $683,100). But I am sad that I do not meet the requirements as I am still a minor and I have little developing experience. Still, this will be insane for developers that are making amazing, quality games!

This can’t be a coincidence?
