iOS issue - ability to open game share links

As a Roblox developer, it is currently hard to create mobile-only games despite there being a huge player base for this to be possible. One of the main reasons for this is when sharing a Roblox game link outside the app, even when the share link is generated in-app the link when the link is pressed regardless of where the link is shared it redirects the user to the Roblox app download location in the AppStore on iOS instead of opening the app on the page of the game within the link.

If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve mobile game share ability outreach considerably. While I am unsure if this is possible it would definitely be worth looking into.

It seems this may be a bug only on iOS, although the results are the same regardless on whether I open the link within that app or another.

Before anyone is pedantic and says this now a bug and no longer a feature perhaps the feature can be the iOS sharing feature is fixed.

Yeah, how I bypass this is by copy-and-pasting the link into the Notes app, then I click “Open in Roblox” - I asked some people why this happens, apparently it’s a developer issue so this post should be in Bug Reports

Thank you for sharing the issue. Based on your video, it appears the link was opened from the Discord app. On iOS, when opening a Roblox link (for example, from the Notes app), the system typically provides two options: “Open in Roblox” and “Open in Safari.”

If “Open in Safari” is selected, iOS will often redirect to the App Store rather than opening the Roblox app directly. Unfortunately, the system remembers this preference and may apply it when accessing Roblox links from other apps, including Discord.

To address this, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Copy the Roblox link and paste it into the Notes app.
  2. Long press the link and select “Open in Roblox.”
  3. After completing this action once, return to Discord and try tapping the link again to see if it now opens directly in the Roblox app.

Please note that the behavior may vary depending on your iOS system version and the Discord app version. For best results, we suggest updating Discord to the latest version before attempting the steps above.
