Is it bad to make yet another grow simulator?

I need feedback on this matter. I dont want to be entirely unoriginal, but i had an idea for a grow type simulator so me and my friend set out to make it. Ive been working hard on it and stuff, but i just cant help but feeling like it might be pointless and unplayed if its just another grow simulator. I mean, im hoping to finish it no matter what, but i just dislike feeling unoriginal.

So, in the end is it worth it? Or will it be another widely forgotten grow a garden-type game?

Recently Grow A Garden has made a quick but massive success (obviously). I personally I think the game will die sooner than we think because of the insanely repetitive gameplay and all the “new” things that are being added (which will overcrowd the game). The developer (@jandel) is a great developer (and a very successful one too), but this game seems to be a one-of-a-kind game, therefore all the copies are just the same gameplay loop which I think is personally killing the original game itself. But with this games Massive success I think it has taken a lot of users from other games as it is now the main spotlight. Making other unique games die out because of a more low effort game (not saying Jandel’s game was low effort, Mainly referring to the Copy-cats).

Now should you make one of these types of copy games? My advice, No. The idea is pretty overused and I think it will die off soon. Most of these games are low effort and just blatant model changes.

What I like to think of these games is just like making a recreation (mod) using the games base idea/mechanics/playstyle whatever. (Like the popular 2000s game Garry’s Mod was a iteration of VALVe’s game Half Life.)

If you do publish the game you would have to beat your competitors in:

  • Winning over your competitors player base (and the original games player base)
  • Creating a unique idea to make your game stand out

You can do this with a lot of advertising and just researching what games are already out there.

But hey whatever floats your boat! Don’t let other peoples opinions stop you from making the game you want to make (unless it doesn’t follow the TOS!).

Hope this helped,
BloobertTheGoob

Thanks for this incredible advice. I will continue with the game, just in hopes that my ideas are somewhat interesting and worth playing to players. And, for me, im not trying to get into roblox developing in the long term so this is rlly just a fun thing im doing with my friend.

Once again, thanks for the advice this is really helpful and insightful

No problem!

If your still interested in growing your game if you publish it just simply try advertising! (Only if you can afford it) 100 Robux a week for a couple of weeks could go a long way!

Other ways of advertising you could use is Social Medias! Contacting small Youtubers, Streamers, etc. could help boost your game a lot!

Good luck and have fun!

Just curious, where do you advertise for 100 Robux a week?

offsite only, like youtube, but unsure if someone will agree to do smth for such big sum. In roblox you need to spend at least 2850 robux / 2 days. (1425/day)

I’m talking about just simple Roblox advertisements (Sponsored Games) A cheap way to get your game out there just as a starting budget if 100 robux a week for a couple weeks.

Examples:

1 ad credit costs 285 robux.

Sponsors require minimum 5 ad credits / day = 9,975 robux for 5 ad credits per day for 1 week

Ad credits? I haven’t advertised on Roblox since they removed the banner ads! Sorry for the error I was not aware!

(You could probs pay small creators 100 robux a week as a starting budget like he said aswell)

Yep, its very expensive now sadly which kind of takes away from newer developers with low budgets.

It’s also a bidding system so 5 ad credits is the bare minimum.

But yeah, I was confused :joy:
