I’m trying to recreate similar visuals to Lethal Company, i.e outlines and celshading, etc. I used highlights on the above as an example, but I want to be able to make an entire game with this effect, I know Roblox’s post fx is kinda restricted, so I’m looking to see if there’s a way to play around with it.
You could group most things and then apply the highlight.
For example:
Here are around 600 parts all completely having a highlight because they are parented to a model that has a highlight instance.
Just know that Roblox has a 256 highlight limit so that means you can only have 256 unique highligh active at one time. Hence, you can just remove those highlights which the player can’t see and readd them when the player can or is supposed to see them.
From what I can decipher, the postprocessor in Lethal Company applies a harsh cutoff where the terminator line of the shadow meets the lit side of an object, and adds a subtle outline to the edges of geometry facing away from the camera.
These post processing effects aren’t really possible in Roblox, however there are other methods that you can use to achieve something close. In fact, my game project achieves a faux cel-shading effect with a colour correction glitch.
Here’s one way to do it:
To have outlined objects & enemies, you’ll need to get around the Highlight limit (you can only have 31 afaik) - this issue is easily surmountable by grouping your entities up into big groups, of which have 1 parent highlight shared across all of them.
(Put all enemy models under the same group model, all items you can pick up, and you can split up environment models into different highlight groups otherwise you would only see outlines where the env geometry meets the skyline)
