is it worth it to spend 500 
on making a trailer for my game?

It would allow users to get a better visualization of what to expect (without giving too much spoilers) and really help draw in players. Although 500 sounds steep, its reasonable considering you might gain some back from the game if you market it right. If you feel as if this trailer will bring in more players and help them see the creativity and fun involved with the game, then by all means I would spend it.
