Is my game actually any good? (BE BRUTALLY HONEST)

game link for if u want to check it out [UPDATE!!!!!!!] entirely generic kit battling game - Roblox

I’ve been working on this game for a while now, it’s only really been a passion project to work on when I’m feeling bored and nothing more, no professionalism or whatever, but I’m starting to feel like I should work on it more professionally, but that kind of goes against the point of the game feeling purposefully low effort.

It’s a fighting game inspired by item asylum, full of funny stuff and niche references, purposefully low effort in places.

I’m aware the outpost thing map is TERRIBLE and once I can get back to my PC I’ll attempt to rework it and make it less terrible, but aside from that I’d love some feedback, places I can improve and whatever.

BE BRUTALLY HONEST ABOUT ANY GLARING ISSUES, I CAN TAKE IT

If you aren’t being sarcastic, thanks. If atleast one person enjoys my stuff I’m satisfied.

  • I love the ui design i wish i was as good as you
  • Fishnade is underpowered
  • I fw the triple baka kit
  • I really like the death sound effects
  • The automatic bhopping with the cagville merc knife is beautiful
  • The recoil on the assault rifle for that kit is very realistic too
  • The geagle has too way much recoil tho
  • I would preload the animations because sometimes the attacks have a pretty long delay
  • I dont like how i cant test the florida vet weapons because i have no friends to play with :c
  • I have a grand total of like 9 hours in london and i can confirm the london resident is very realistic (i also really like the duelist form weapon)
  • the mr evil guy stalk tool reminds me of Monarch from titanfall 2 so thats a big W
  • i also like how you can use weapons while ragdolled

overall rating 7/10 maybe if there was a big enough market to fulfill and if the ui was a lil cleaner it would pass as a game people would play every day

Using weapons while dead/ragdolled is unintended, thanks for the free bug fixing lol.

I’d also like to know where the UI can be improved, UI has always been a pain so if you can send some screenshots of where I could improve in certain places it would really help.

add a gradient when hovering over buttons
slightly decrease the ui corners
remove emojis and maybe add an image label being text when hovering
make a character selection menu that can only be accessed in the lobby
cutscene menus

animations would look better with no easing style
more animations
dont wanna sound desperate but id love to help on the game

First off you’ll want padding around the text so it doesn’t clip outside the border or anything, and also make the background more transparent so it contrasts better with the background

Make the corner roundness consistent, also I love the cat scrollbar but unfortunately he has to go if you don’t want people having a stroke trying to use your UI
Make header/button texts bold so it improves the form and stands out more

This style of setting options is cool until your player has no idea what a variable is so maybe just use colours (and symbols for the colourblind) to represent the state of the option

I think I’ll go do a quick redesign of what I think would look better in your game

Ok it’s not perfect but this is how I’d imagine the kit list would look
You don’t have to use the icons I chose (I got them from Lucide) but it’s nice to have a somewhat transparent image in the background to help picture what the kit might feel like
I would recommend making the list be the button itself. If you couldn’t guess already, you would click on the title of the list, and it would drop the list down. Click it again and it would retract. Shouldn’t be too hard, you just have to animate the Size property on click.

I used a CanvasGroup as the root to make sure the title TextLabel doesn’t clip outside the rounded corners. They’re great on their own, but make sure not to stack them or you’ll see resolution problems.
For the colours, I just picked a base value for the brightness, and then adjusted the hue for different colours. For some reason this makes the colour choice much nicer. Don’t ask me why, I only figured it out last month. In short, use HSV when picking colours and adjust each component manually. Keeping saturation in the middle will make your UI a lot easier to look at.
I would change the kit buttons themselves personally, I would rather the text be independent from the background so the text can stay white (or whatever colour) while the background can have it’s gradient.
Fair warning, I did start designing before the thought of using buttons, so if you don’t have a class converter plugin you’re gonna have to manually turn the TextLabels into TextButtons, sorry!

I believe you can figure out how to design the rest of your UI around this but if you need more help (and I’m in the mood) I can help design a little more
I also pray you know when to use Scale and when to use Offset on UDims. :folded_hands:

I have ClassConverter, don’t worry.

This UI looks sick I really like it, I’ll make sure to give credit, it’s really clean and way less messy.

Don’t worry about credit lol it’s nothing difficult, you just have to learn how to use the UI instances (for example when to use UIPadding, or when to use a CanvasGroup instead of a Frame)
I would admit it might be a little too clean for your game, but that’s up to you to decide, and you can always edit it yourself!

The game is very good in it’s current state, and I had a lot of fun playing with two random DevForum users. The humor is very top-notch - especially with the names of the kits. However, I do have a bit of criticism and a few changes you could make:

  1. The lobotomy state lasts forever, even when you reset. You should probably change the duration to a finite amount of time because it does get annoying after a while.
  2. A bit of balancing could be done to make the kits more fair. For example, I was vaporized by John Fish’s fish bazooka of doom and despair multiple times during play. The ranged weapons seem to be way more effective than melee.
  3. The map is cool, but it can get boring after a while. Perhaps consider adding new map types and variations.

That’s about it though. Great game. With a few tweaks, I expect to see this on the front page in a few months’ time.

This game is actually really cool! I was lucky enough to join the game when there was another person, so I got to actually experience some combat. It was fun and I like the different items.

I will say, many of the sound effects are incredibly loud and annoying. That was my main issue with the game. I almost left the game many times because the sound effects were so loud and went on for so long.

I cannot describe in words my excitement when I pulled out the throwable pearto WHEN MY AVATAR HEAD IS LITERALLY PEARTO! That was awesome.

This game has a lot of potential. With some tweaks, I see this game going far. Great work and thanks for sharing!

Give this man a playerbase, simple style. very straightforward and fun. Guess something subject to change is to make players choose kit before spawning in

There are map variations, the map system works like those TF2 servers that always run 2fort, maps are server dependent and you get a random one when the server is created.

Also permanent lobotomy is unintended, I’ll see what I can do since brain surgeon has been basically untouched since it was added lol.

Thanks for the feedback, once I have the time I’ll go through all the sounds and make them a bit less intrusive (reducing volume, distance and whatever else)

I couldn’t test the game to it’s full potentional as I was playing alone, but I like the random death effect sounds, the kits and also the lighting

What I dislike is the music being dead silent, and when you have the volume maxed out, so you can hear something, you get hit by a massive earrape.

Overall, nicely polished.

9/10

Music being silent is somewhat intentional since its supposed to be background noise to fill the silence, and im planning on making it a bit quieter overall to prevent your ears being blown out.
