Is my game boring?

Hey everyone,

I have been dedicated to a game project for over a year now alongside some friends. Despite the fact that I haven’t taken any steps to advertise it in the slightest, I can atleast confidently say that it’s fully finished. As a game, it’s something we made out of passion for the classic Roblox vibe whilst also combining it with a dark horror aesthetic. So, after all the time we dedicated to put it all together, I recently just wanted to look back at our work and thoroughly see the results of our efforts. In other words, I played it from start to finish one night and while I can confidently say that we did a good job, especially for a group of amateur developers, I can also say one thing…

…I find it kinda boring.

Why is this such a problem? Because we’ve been working a lot on this project, plus I was looking forward on advertising it and whatnot too. It would be such a shame if the entire thing just ends up being meh at best, since frankly if a game is boring why would somebody even play it? The reason I’m reaching out to the developer forum is because I think I could also just be tired of it after all this time of developing it. So I really can’t know for sure.

I was really hoping if I could get some second opinions on this. I fear that we could be wasting our time and potentially my money on this project if it IS actually boring.

Feel free to ask questions and any feedback is appreciated. Don’t be afraid to be honest.

Thanks.

I gave the game a try and it’s a really unique concept, and I feel like the game would honestly blow up any day now with the right advertising! However, to the whole “boring” problem, I have a few suggestions:

You could try importing a multiplayer version in your game, that will make it way more fun.
As for how you would do it, I’m not sure. Maybe you and other people would have to complete single player first or something.

Once again, I’m not sure how to combat this, as the game is clearly meant for single player.

If I come up with other idea’s, I’ll list them as well. (Multiplayer is kind of mid)

Okay, I also gave it a shot.

Incredible sound design, incredible lighting, pace was good too, original game as said by NerdBurg. To be honest if I played a game like that during my normal playtime during the day, it would be a highlight, and I’m not saying that to be nice. I think you got something truly master crafted here, and you should be proud of that.

My only feedback would be that during the time where monsters are after you, you should add some system of tasks to complete before dawn. I ended up just staying near the closet and doing nothing.

Incredible work guys

First of all, thanks to all for your unexpectedly positive feedback!

Second, do you think the darkness ruins the game or is it tolerable?

it is sort of tolerable but for low iq people like me, i couldn’t figure out how to unlock the door in the hallway.

It’s tolerable, but I would still add a SLIGHT amount of light in super dark areas. Such as: The Hallway in your house and what not.
