Hello I have been building for some time now, and this is my first ever showcase (unfinished as of now). as you can see I took alot of inspiration from one of my favorite games Shadow of the Colossus (if you haven’t heard of this game it is super good idea generating material for building so you should check it out). I was wondering if this could get me into any good builders groups such as EBR, and RAR. I would love some feedback on it and criticism.
The biggest flaw with this is the giant grass field. I understand the setting requires these kinds of open fields, but you can mix in some more vegetation, debris like fallen bricks or other partially buried artifacts, rusted piping, chains, wooden planks, decaying organic matter like fallen branches or leaves, et cetera. The detailing is nice in the areas where you put in the effort, but it is inconsistent across the whole build (the stairs at the entrance, for example, are extremely plain, uniform and frankly an eyesore – you can remedy this by adding more details in the beginning area to distract the eye, because currently it’s a flat lifeless floor, two large flat lifeless walls and some plain stairs staring you down from the middle).
I think it is a great build, but I can’t tell you whether it’s EBR-Worthy or not. Builders in EBR range in many different styles, some focusing on different themes, amount of detail, size of the level, etc. Essentially, it’s just such a wide range that I can’t judge it that way. They may also look for people who have multiple showcases.
The figure in the last image is very highly detailed, and I like the smaller but noticeable engravings it has. My only critique of it is that, while it is very uniform, I feel like it could use some more color. I say add more touches of lighter and darker browns, as well as white (if you’re still following a more run-down ancient style).
My plan was to add more debree in the middle, and turn the giant grey walls into rock terrain with some trees growing on the sides. I will keep in mind that the start is a little plain atm and will work on making it way more of a eye pleaser. Thank you for your criticism it means alot.
Hey! As an RAR member myself, I can confirm that’s good enough for RAR. Just send a join request to RAR with that build on your profile, and make sure the title of it says (RAR) so they know which one.
You can ask any of the administrators/moderators for questions. Preferably @AerialsAbove , he’s one of the admins.
As for EBR, I feel like that needs a better atmosphere, and it has a very unfinished vibe to it. When applying for EBR, you need to make sure your build has consistency, a good atmosphere, detail, and they need to see that you have a good knowledge of building mechanics, utilizing lighting and atmospheric effects properly, and that you know what you’re building (it matches with reality rather than it being unrealistic, for instance if you make a house out of pebble material)
