Basically I started scripting exactly last year, in october 2023. I became pretty good and even worked on a decently popular horror game, however i became burnt out and by august of 2024 I took a step back and stopped scripting. It’s now october and my break has basically lasted for 1-2 months now. And I’ve been scripting for 1 year, I’m pretty sure I still remember everything on how to script. Should I keep going?
It’s pretty much up to you, but I would keep going.
if youre motivated then why not, programming languages are hard to forget just like spoken languages and if you forgot something 1 google search and you suddenly remember everything if you already knew it in the past
I should’ve made it more clear that by “keep going” I meant like, should I continue the break or should I come out of retirement?
Scripting (and programming in general) is not something you can forget. Logical thinking isn’t something you can forget because it’s a trained disciple over an actual memory. Logical thinking is essentially the foundation of any and all programming languages. So whilst it may be a bit difficult to get back into programming after a long break, you will get back into the swing of things in no time.
Misunderstood the post, but if scripting/programming is something you have a passion for, I don’t see why you should entirely quit. A hobby is only a hobby if you enjoy it afterall.
I am in the same place. Stopped around August after the day job consumed too much of my life. Now I don’t feel inclined to start again, even though making games is something I love to do. I’m just taking it week by week and hope that at some point I will be inspired to start again.
