Late Night Development -- Enthusiast of Trains WANTING IDEAS OF WHAT TO MAKE

Hey, I am lost for ideas for what to make at this moment.

I am a train enthusiast, and at this current moment I wish to program something in the field of Trains, I am an intermediate programmer/coder in JavaScript and Lua.

I am NOT a good builder, what could I build to make my idea simple (that you guys come up with)

Thanks.

Well, I guess something like stepford county railway, british railway, whitecoast could work.

I’m also a train enthusiast and would like to stay updated with your game if you plan to make it.

One of my favorite train games is

Someplace Uptown

By @paquito02

It’s an older game but one thing that makes it fun to play is being able to choose from a variety of trains and simply drive them around the city during a retro earlier era of time. It’s a beautiful liminal place and kind of peaceful to zone out and just drive. It looks like something you’d see in Gmod.

A bonus is that you get to learn a little history behind each real life train, can stop at the various stations to pick people up if you want. Teleporting is available between stations and depots if you need.

I think a mix of utility (being able to drive a train with realistic UI controls and speed displays for each type of train - go too fast and you’ll derail and crash!), history (for enthusiasts but not overwhelming or intrusive for others), and a pleasing place to look at and drive around would be a good path to take.

For building, it’s a complex looking large scale build but if you run around the place on foot the buildings are simple shapes with a reasonable level of low resolution textures. No building interiors or NPCs (they use city ambiance sounds to create the illusion of life there). The lighting is minimal (it’s at night) and the primary focus is on the design and build of the trains.

I don’t know how complicated the scripting is for this but it may be something you could do without too much trouble if you already have some experience with it and the low-poly/low-res build style would help too.
