There are a lot of hats that are just a book with text on it, but it could at least use a better thumbnail than laying on its side for every version of the hat and could be placed upright than down.
This is just an example of one of many, and yet it should at least be upright and not laid down so it can be the best thumbnail to show the cover of said book on the front page.
These thumbnails should at least be better than laying down on its side and should be upright to be viewable of the front cover of the book and not the side of the book. As these books are limited its still important to think that people buy these limited with a less than ideal view on its thumbnail.
The thumbnails of these books have been like this ever since the books were created. Roblox probably isn’t going to update decades-old hats purely for aesthetic purposes.
You can use 3D mode to look at all sides of the book anyway.
I think that the current thumbnail of the item gives a clearer indication of how it’ll actually appear when worn. The proposed one is just a flat poster that gives no spatial information whatsoever, and if you really cared about what the cover says, you can already see it with the 2D thumbnail or just use the 3D preview. I also think it’s more consistent with other item thumbnails, as most of them give some indication of depth by putting the item at an angle.
I can agree and disagree with this, and I see both points on this matter. However, changing it the thumbnail wouldn’t hurt the item it’ll give it a better point of view without using the 2D view on said website. (Keep in mind its a thumbnail not moving the whole item on the avatar). But, a pro for it, it’d be a viewable thumbnail without hurting anything or anyone and isn’t changing the aspect of the item to change, just a better thumbnail in the works is all that is asked.
Granted yes it’s an old item, but we could argue the point if any old item had a messed up thumbnail should we just disagree with with changing the thumbnail for the view to be better? The request is simple, it should be changed to meet with the aspect of the thumbnail instead of the side of it.
Tbh I don’t understand how this would change the aesthetic much, would look alot cleaner in your inventory with them lined up against each other with a top view, item stays completely the same
Not necessarily, just because it changed from the side view to the front cover is not a bad change to have, why have a side view when you could have the whole view of what the book is. The change of this wouldn’t make the item look worse it’s just the thumbnail changing.
An issue with two of those points you’ve made, first using the 2/3D view you could do that with any item thus fixing thumbnails are not important to do with that feature let alone.
Second issue, you can try on all items on the website and or in a game, therefore that as a point is not a good reason either as you could try on all items even with a messed up thumbnail.
For your last point, the “thickness of the book” I don’t think that’s a good example to go with, and for showing how the item looks, granted yes it shows but why would you first have to view in 2/3D let alone to look when it should be available via front page without clicking onto it.
But, if we’re going based off of the “Try On” button and the 2/3D view then there is no point anymore to fix messed up thumbnails only ones that are completely gone for its thumbnail, that’s the issue.
We agree the thumbnails aren’t great and definitely could be better. But they do show the item well enough without having to use 3D view or ‘Try On’. Using those buttons lets you get further information on what it looks like at different angles and how it looks on your Avatar.
Versus some of the other ones we did fix. The other ones we did fix show things flipped at different angles or just completely backwards.
Lastly, we have very limited resources for fixing catalog asset bugs, so we’d rather look into things that are more critical.
We can always agree to disagree on these points, but thank you for clearing this up with the limited resources and the most critical items that are important of fixing than something simple. Thank you for clearing it up.
