Now that guilded is dead I’ve removed my guilded handle from my social links. I want to put discord there in its place.
This would create a massive safety issue if added.
You gotta consider how people other than yourself could potentially maliciously use a feature like this
Explain? You can already link your guilded, twitter, facebook, etc.
Discord is the primary platform used for doing bad things in relation to roblox, I dont think I need to explain any further
You can do that if you have ROPro, which is an extension. Of course, only other ROPro users will be able to see your Discord handle.
If Roblox allows games & communities to have Discord social links then profiles should also be allowed this simply by precedent. There’s no “safety issue” here that didn’t already exist all the way back when social links were first introduced onto the platform.
allowing discord connections on user profiles is inherently a bad idea…
they are on groups and games because they’re linked to a discord server and are for the group/game community whereas a discord connection on your profile is just “hey privately dm me here”
You can make this same argument for the rest of the supported profile social links and yet they are still implemented. If you truly believe there is some “safety issue” to be had here then you may as well post your own feature request asking for profile social links to be removed in their entirety going by your own logic.
Everyones saying this is a security issue but also forgetting that Guilded can be attached to your profile (a 1:1 copy of Discord) as well as Facebook (the most personal platform of all) and Twitter (less notable safety issue instances in comparison, however it’s full of porn and has just as many groomers as Discord)
Additionally, these things can be hidden
as well as potentially having them age gated in consistency with the new chat update (ie, only show to users age group) or even just age gated displaying when the user themselves is 13+ and when the viewer is 13+
I also will admit I think people forget Roblox doesn’t actually care about child safety, so ignoring that one singular glaring issue there isn’t really any other reason to not add this in.
I used to aid in development in a game called Neighbors, then I stopped and just helped with bugs within the game and or Roblox related Engine issues that araised.
Within that game, Discord and Instagram is one of the most things I see the player base trying to smuggle into their “Profile Bio”.
Even today, I see people attempting the same in their Roblox Description.
I think there was a mention once that there would be additional tools within games to control content a bit better. Not sure where that is at, right now.
I don’t think it’s the best idea right now on Roblox. But you were able to connect Guilded and etc.
You can however add a Discord to a Group, as a Community.
Socials aren’t visible to those that don’t have a 13+ Account from what I know. That’s also a PolicyService thing.
The Roblox Chat is another interesting case, since that’s just the chat filter and not PolicyService.
But maybe Roblox knows what people are typing to reference a Discord in some way, and secretly observe.
I hope that Roblox has some data about how users interact with the platform to ensure that safety is preserved, if they ever plan to add anything about this. But in a good way, and not a way that gets someone terminated for uploading an asset, vs. publishing a ModuleScript on the Creator Hub.
Everyone saying that this is a safety risk should look at Twitter. It has DMs too.
Roblox is too stubborn to incorporate the linking of things like discord handles to profiles even though they’re already supported on group pages.
Roblox also ignores nearly every feature request because people care about QoL, and ACTUAL safety.
Roblox doesn’t care about the platform, they care about the money.
…iirc, isnt there a /users endpoint?
Like, for example: https://discord.com/users/YOURUSERIDHERE
That should then open a profile popup or something on the discord app. It works when testing myself, but I’m not too sure if it works on people you dont have a connection to.
Pretty sure it only works if your Discord client already has that user in its cache for whatever reason.
