Let There Be (Unified) Light! Unified Lighting Enters Studio Beta

imma be blunt now, is roblox trying to fuck us over? Like WHY?

probably cause its too “performance heavy” or smtn

while support for per-pixel shadows on everything on top of dynamic hdr and a better bloom effect than what we had now was running at 60 fps

btw fib3 took about 5-6 years to roll out. it started development in 2014-2015 looking at old vids from one of its developers. it was still running at 60fps even with the 1k lights shown in the first of the 3 vids here which would lag now

mhm… “performance issues” on real time lighting features developed 11 years ago

roblox is genuinely so behind on tech. features which released on other game engines over 10 if not 20 years ago are only just being implemented or will be implemented in smtn like 10 years, and roblox says its for “performance reasons” theyre not added even if said features were developed over a decade ago and ran real time then. hell with current future lighting I’m pulling over 200 fps at max graphics on a pc built in 2018

True, even a modern phone or tablet could run that kind of tech at 40 or 50 FPS.
Honestly, the reason they are so behind on tech is because Roblox is still supporting mobile devices that are clearly not supported anymore, they stopped support for windows 7 an 8.X, yet they don’t stop support for mobile devices with the same age, why? Because they can’t let go of those players, or else they will lose alot of users.

realistically speaking if thats the case, in the future we are going to expect better quality because, less older devices being used. Also they should like give separate settings for each device, like roblox should Auto-detect the hardware its running on to determine how good it should display the lighting, so people with better devices shouldnt be held back

didn’t it already do that for devices?

Honestly, no idea. But if this were the case, why not add the feature why I mentioned

Unified Lighting doesn’t improve graphics, its just a different system used to handle switching between different lighting technologies that have existed on the platform for years at this point.

In fact, its actually worse, graphically speaking, on its highest setting as the per-pixel local lights have their render cutoff reduced by around 100 studs compared to Future lighting.

I think it does, iirc android users were never able to use future lighting until recently.
