Let Your Players Pay for Subscriptions within Experiences in Robux

Hi Creators,

As shared at RDC 2025, today we’re expanding how you can monetize through subscriptions within your experience. You can now offer your players the ability to purchase subscriptions in Robux, in addition to their local currency.

Alongside passes and developer products, we’re giving you the tools to earn from your experience through subscription-based offerings. They also can help you drive deeper engagement and user loyalty while generating a predictable, recurring revenue stream.

You shared feedback that offering subscriptions exclusively in local currency created a barrier for players who prefer spending their Robux balances. By expanding subscriptions to accept Robux, you can tap into our global audience that spends in Robux while giving you the freedom to monetize in the way that works best for your experiences.

What is new with subscriptions within experiences?

  • Expanded global access: Subscriptions in Robux will open up opportunities for players to purchase your subscription across all Roblox supported platforms and countries, like developer products and passes.

  • Lower price floors: You can now price subscriptions starting at 49 Robux. This makes subscriptions accessible to more players.

  • Regional pricing: Regional pricing will be enabled for all subscriptions in Robux. We have seen regional pricing can help grow a creator’s business by offering prices that better reflect local economies and in turn create a positive impact on creators’ engagement and bookings.

  • Flexible pricing: You have the ability to change the price of your subscription every 60 days. Roblox will automatically notify your users at least 30 days in advance before any price increases go into effect. For price decreases, the new lower price will take effect on the user’s next renewal cycle, and we will inform all active subscribers of the change.

  • Choice of currency: You can choose to price your subscriptions in Robux or local currency.

This is a really welcome change. Is it possible we could also see this for studio plugins again somewhere in the future?

This sounded like an awesome and useful feature right up until this part was mentioned. Please give developers a choice on this matter because a lot of us don’t like the fact that WE are being expected to eat the costs of regional pricing instead of Roblox when Roblox already takes so much from a developer’s revenue stream that it’s simply not fair.

If regional pricing is forced then this has just become another feature that could have been great but was immediately ruined by awful decision making.

Please add the ability to sell regular gamepasses and such for local currency too, I’m not the kind of guy to load up a game with a zillion pay to win microtransactions but it would make onboarding easier for games that are using Roblox more as a host rather than making games specifically for a Roblox audience

Will we be able to support one subscription in both local currency and Robux?

It is very limiting to only be able to choose one type for every subscription…

Tho would this be done if it didn’t truly have a positive outcome for revenue? The less people spend the less they buy too so if the stats do point positively it is probably a good thing

Does this update relate to the new API additions like MarketplaceService:PromptRobloxSubscriptionPurchase and Player.HasRobloxSubscription? What exactly are these for, and are they the tools we should use to implement this new system?

Counter-point: if this truly had a positive outcome for revenue, then why isn’t Roblox the one taking the revenue hit? Because it obviously doesn’t have a positive outcome. That positive outcome only comes if you’re an already large game who already has a much larger pool of potential buyers to work with and only ends up robbing revenue from smaller games.

Regional pricing is obviously not meant to be for the developer’s benefit and the way they chose to go about implementing it heavily reflects that fact.

This is a great option for people like me who prefer to spend robux I already have instead of pay out of my pocket for on-site content and I’m sure players will also appreciate it!

However I am not sure how to feel about forced regional pricing without a way to disable it, while I would keep it enabled anyway, I feel like it should be optional.

Can this Subscription Bug please get looked into? I had a Subscription, but my game was falsely taken down. Despite getting it restored, all my Subscription Data was deleted and my Subscription no longer exists

Would use this if this wasn’t forced to be dynamically priced. Our game runs on a very tight economy with external costs for running this economy, and allowing some players to get currency for cheaper from a subscription because they live in a different country won’t work for us.

I do agree that at the end it should be the choice of the developer too but I also like to think of the whys something might be done since there is obviously a goal here

Why I believe it is the way it is is because dropping the value of the purchased Robux itself would make it extremely close or equal to the value developers earn, resulting in unsustainable platform costs and eventual closure but dropping the value of some of the products inside most likely just leads to more sales (in countries with weak currencies) and perceived lower prices or whatever psychological effects it has while keeping platform revenue predictable and sustainable

Not necessarily in defense here I just like to think about and breakdown stuff

I was about to say that Roblox never posts on april fools but nevermind. Huge W update!

Awesome! Now what about plugins? Developers make Robux, they should also be able to spend that Robux on plugins.

Yes! As someone who primarily works in Robux, seeing support for it once again is such a welcome change. Super excited to see if Robux expands back into other marketplace areas!

Could we see Gamepass Gifting be implemented first party in the future, now that subscriptions have had one of their largest flaws fixed?

We have no plans at the moment but we have shared this feedback with the team!

I can definitely say this is a great update. My only criticism is that the same policy should apply to other “regional pricing” related issues (e.g., toolboxes, plugins, paid experiences)
