Limited-time item erroneously left on-sale

From late September to late October/early November each year from 2015-2018, Roblox released an “Animal of the Week” series related to Halloween. Each year Roblox made a different set of animals; for 2014, they did Owls, 2015 was Cats, 2016 was Ghosts, 2017 was Puppies, 2018 was Dragons, and finally 2019 was Llamas.

As you can see, it was the norm for Roblox to release these items and then take them off-sale after a week, as the name “____ of the Week” suggests. (The Hat of the Week and Gear of the Week items aren’t related to the animal items, but show that when Roblox makes an item ending in “of the Week”, they mean it, save for making it Limited at a later date.)

In this screenshot, you can see a few items standout as being on-sale – 1 item from Puppies of the Week and all 4 Llamas of the Week.

As the Llamas of the Week were released in September/October 2019, Roblox was already doing away with timers after the disastrous Presidents’ Day sale that year where all of the limited uniques glitched out, causing extra copies of them to be produced (one notable offender was the expensive Disgraced Baroness of the Federation, which skyrocketed from the intended 100 copies to 236 copies).

So, while I can’t confirm this, it is safe to assume that the Llamas were intended to be permanent on-sales rather than limited-time. (For another example, you can see that they ditched the timer for 2019’s Sinister Pumpkin, Sinister F despite all of the others in the series being off-sale/Limited.)

Excluding the 2019 items, all of the Animals of the Week are off-sales, so it doesn’t make sense that one of the four Dragons of the Week remained on-sale. For further context, here was the release schedule for the Dragons:

  1. Dragon of the Week: Count VonDragoon - 9/28/2018 - 10/5/2018
  2. Dragon of the Week: Undead Ned - 10/5/2018 - 10/12/2018
  3. Dragon of the Week: Dragonzilla - 10/12/2018 - 10/19/2018 (intended)
  4. Dragon of the Week: Ghastly Gus - 10/19/2018 - 10/26/2018
  5. Dragon of the Week: Skeletal Sam - 10/26/2018 - 11/2/2018

As Roblox had done every year from 2015-2018, each dragon was given a week of catalog time, and was promptly taken off-sale with the release of the next dragon. If Roblox really wanted users to get this particular dragon outside of its one-week window, then they would have made it Limited, not kept it on-sale at the same price forever.

Many people bought these series with the (very fair) expectation that the items with the items would go off-sale. It looks like an oversight was made somewhere down the line which has caused the Dragonzilla to stay on-sale.

Expected behavior

The Dragon of the Week: Dragonzilla should be taken off-sale as the week of October 12, 2018, is over.

It’s not just one item that’s still on sale here — there are 6 items, so it’s reasonable to assume that some Items of the Week still being available for purchase is actually intended.

Moreover, I don’t see any consistent pattern that requires Items of the Week to go off-sale after one week, and what you’re saying seems to contradict itself. Honestly, unless Roblox explicitly states that an item will go off-sale, it’s a bit of a stretch to confidently claim the opposite.

You said,

but then you also said,

So, if going off-sale after a week is supposed to be the standard, why didn’t it bother you that Llama of the Week stayed permanently on sale? You only seemed to take issue with Dragon of the Week: Dragonzilla

The versions that are still on sale:

Considering the current attitude of staff on the DevForum — and the fact that there’s absolutely nothing explicitly stating these items would go off-sale (unlike other items that usually say “available until” or clearly mention going off-sale) — they’ve never made any changes. So… good luck with that. :folded_hands:
