Looking for advice on finding playtesters

Hello!

I’m a solo dev 10 months into Spillbound TD, a roguelike tower-defense inspired by Risk of Rain 2 (RoR2) with:

  • Four maps
  • 18 towers
  • Item system similar to RoR2’s but where items are placed onto towers to buff them
  • Unique enemy types that I haven’t seen in many other TDs
  • Metaprogression point system for towers

I have been working on this game for the past 10 months. It’s in Alpha now since it is playable. Since there is about a few more months of development left (disregarding cosmetic/visual development, which is very lacking), I have two questions:

  • When should I start finding playtesters (specifically for PC, since the game is unavailable on mobile or console yet)?
  • How should I find those playtesters?

I assume it would be through some form of promotion, but I wasn’t sure how or what was optimal. If you have any knowledge about this, I’d love to know!

Hey! First and foremost, I tried out your game and I absolutely love it. I will definitely be a repeat player. And to answer your questions, I think you could probably start finding playtesters right now. I’ve invited people to test my game that has far less polish and replayability.

As for finding playtesters, a good place to start is here on the devforum. You could post a few devlogs or ask for feedback on certain things and I’m sure there will be people who are intrigued by the game and decide to give you feedback beyond what you asked for. Youtube is also a pretty good option as people are always looking for new developers to interact with.

Good luck!

I’m happy you like it! It’s good to know that I could start now. When you mention YouTube, do you mean posting videos about the game?

Yeah, posting videos. You’ll probably get the most reach if you post shorts and long-form videos!
