Ok, so I’m not the one that would be directly paying (at least not until the project is done) but I’m a huge Pokemon enthusiast. One of the fun things about Pokemon for me is the ability to randomize the game (gen 5 and below).
However, my computer recently blew up, and I had to go to the library to randomize a game, and that’s a 5 mile bike ride.
My idea is this: Port the randomizer I use to Android since the source code is open source. Is that possible? Here’s the source:
This is an app that can easily sell for $1.99 a pop. You just have to be careful how you name it and whatnot to avoid copyright issues from Nintendo. But that’s not an actual issue.
Although the code is open source it is licensed under the GNU General Public License. This license allows the code to be modified but crucially it must be distributed under the same license (ie. freely distributed). You can’t modify the software and then sell it.
