Looking For Feedback On a RPG

Hello developers!

A while ago I made a post about a game I have had the privilege to work on, but at that time it was very buggy. In fact, one issue made it so that it was unplayable for new players. Now that has been fixed, and I’m back looking for more of your feedback.

What is it?
Drenoketh is a silent hero, story driven MORPG. If you are not a big fan of stories in games you can play without progressing through the story, there is plenty to do, but I highly suggest playing through the story for the best experience.

How is it unique?
At least to me personally, it seems that all too often MORPG type games hardly focus on the story. Yes there generally is a story, but it seems to take the back seat to other features of the game. Drenoketh aims to provide a single player RPG story experience, but make it multiplayer.

What is there to do?
There are many things to do outside of the main story. These include:

Exploration

Drenoketh currently has three major areas the player can visit:

  • The Wasteland
  • The Ancient Forest
  • The Kahtahkaz Sands

In order to progress to another area, you must defeat the guardian of the area you are in and then travel to the gate that leads to the next area. You can return to any previously unlocked area at any time, by traveling back to the gate that leads to it.

As a starting point, the gate that leads to the Ancient Forest is in the western portion of the Wasteland, while the guardian to unlock that gate is in the southern portion of the Wasteland.

You can either find these locations on your own, or follow the main storyline.

As you journey through each major area you may find various lore objects and hidden areas. Certain areas may require the completion of a particular quest to access.

Equipment

There are various armor sets and weapons that you can purchase and collect throughout the game. Some pieces of equipment require a specific character level before you can equip them. You can purchase equipment from a vendor that sells it, or occasionally find some as a drop from certain monsters.

Attributes

Attributes serve as requirements for certain skills, and some provide some passive benefits as well.
Intelligence - currently is only required for certain skills
Endurance - currently is only required for certain skills
Strength - increases the damage dealt by a melee weapon
Precision - increases critical hit chance
Agility - increases player speed
Stealth - decreases detection radius/chance

Each of these benefits is generally a very small increase per point spent. You get an attribute point to spend each time you level up.

Skills

In order to unlock a skill, you must speak with a skill trainer. You will also have to spend a skill point, which can be obtained by defeating guardians. Most skills require a certain number of attribute points invested in a particular attribute.

Side Quests

Throughout the various areas in the game, you can find several NPCs that will give you a side quest. Many such side quests may be a simple task such as delivering a letter, but some could start a small storyline of their own.

Achievements

At the time of this post there is only one obtainable achievement in Drenoketh; however, more are almost certain to come. Achievements can be viewed from within the Social menu.

Much, much more is planned.

A couple disclaimers
It is worth noting that Drenoketh is still under very active development. More areas, content, and story are planned. At the time of this post, the main story is incomplete as well. There will of course be bugs, if you encounter any please do let me know and I will try to get them fixed. Certain portions of the GUI have remained since around Alpha/early Beta, and those will likely be overhauled in time.

I would appreciate any feedback or constructive criticism that you have to offer.

You can play here: Drenoketh [EARLY] - Roblox

The customization system could use some design work, otherwise, it’s a pretty good RPG. I enjoyed it for the most part.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! What were your issues with the customization system? I would be interested in looking into that.

I think some of the things in the game look and play pretty professionally but there are some suggestions I’d like to give:
-It seems a little confused on whether it wants to be a fantasy RPG or a futuristic ninja game.
-The text in dialogue boxes should be bigger or text scaled.
-You should give some names to the NPC’s otherwise they all look the same.
-Again on the story, I was very confused about what I was doing or where I was - maybe a prologue would help?

Thank you for your feedback! I will try to address each concern individually!

Drenoketh is actually a Fantasy and Sci-Fi blend. This has yet to fully blossom in later areas that you may reach as you progress through the game.

This is definitely something I will have to look into.

I actually plan to do this, hopefully soon. Thank you for mentioning it.

A minor amount of confusion is intended, as you are supposed to be thrown into the story somewhat. Drenoketh starts off similar to an amnesiac story. However, only a minor amount of confusion is intended, so thank you for bringing this to my attention. In terms of a prologue, I certainly do have my eye on custom videos being added to Roblox.

In the meantime I will try to provide a small bit of background to the story. Drenoketh deals with the idea of interdimensional travel. At the beginning of the game you start out in a laboratory that is conducting experiments of this nature. At the end of the tutorial you are pulled into another dimension, land in the Wasteland, and start your journey of figuring out what is going on.

Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated!

For anyone who may be wondering, some clarification to the story has been provided during the tutorial. Also, many NPCs now have a name, which can be seen when you interact with them. Hopefully this clears up any confusion in that regard.
