Hello everyone, I’ve been working on a Dev Hub alternative for the past couple weeks, and I’m looking to get some feedback on it. It’s still very early in development, but the core functionality works now.
One thing that’s always annoyed me in Dev Hub is that the galleries just disappear when you leave the game. This is not the case in my Dev Hub. Instead, it has a lobby system where you can make and join persistent galleries, which are hosted in separate places. It’s not completely useless to stay in your gallery though, since people can see when the owner is currently in the gallery. Likewise, you can also see if there’s people playing a gallery from the lobby.
I’m also planning to create a discord bot which would inform you anonymously when a player enters your gallery so you can show them around.
These galleries are also much more customizable than Dev Hub galleries, since I also provide you with a trimmed-down version of BTools. Right now you can only move displays, but I’m planning to expand that as development progresses. Currently it also only has one display shape, on which you can only put games, groups, decals and text on. But that’s also going to change in the future. I’m imagining displays for UGCs, clothing, models and gamepasses, but I’m open to suggestions for more as well.
I’m also planning to add comments similar to Better Discovery to galleries and the ability to send private messages to offline users.
The one thing I’m not sure about though is monetization. I’m generally very much opposed to more intrusive monetization tactics, so the only thing planned is a sponsored segment in the lobby, which would allow you to purchase a subscription to get your gallery featured in a sponsored segment at the top of the gallery list. Everything else seems disgusting to me.
PM me if you have some feedback, I’d love to know what you think.
If you want to get notified for updates you can join the Discord.
If the goal is for the developers’ work to stand out, the floor should likely be as plain as possible so that the players’ attention can be focused where you want it: on the work.
It’s not so much a recreation as it is a completely different system, aside from the displays really. And even they are obviously different from Partology’s Dev Hub.
As for how long it took to make, it took about a month so far if you include the backend and everything.
Right now we’re only releasing a couple bugfixes from time to time. We’re probably gonna continue working on it at some point, but we’re a small team, and so we’re currently focusing on other stuff. It’s got some problems here and there, and I’m sure there could be many more cool features, but if you wanna try it, the basic functionality is already there.
Any feedback is appreciated.
