Looking for Feedback on new game with multiplayer VS mode and single player mode

I have a new start up group and we are making our first game “Phase Shift”, none of us have made games before but we do code for a living. Our first game is a speed based trial game, you have to finish the game within the time limit to pass to the next level and to get on the leader boards.

I have recently added a multiplayer game mode and I am currently focusing on it. In this game type player with most gems before the time runs out wins the game.

The core concept of the game is to use something called phase to go through objects holding down E (keyboard) or left bumper (controller), you can also boost by holding down left mouse click or right bumper (controller). In multiplayer you can use your stamina to push other players away or get a jump boost by pressing Q (keyboard) or B (controller).

I am making this post so we can get some feedback/ideas on where to take this game and if its a game we should keep developing.

Currently in progress:

  • Multiplayer
  • Polishing
  • Levels 25-40
  • Rearranging levels based on difficulty (some early levels are to hard)
  • Bug fixes

What we might work on next

  • More statistics
  • More rewards/badges.
  • Collectible Easter eggs.
  • Power ups.
  • Un-lockable items

Any feed back about the game would be greatly appreciated.

I like the game idea, I never have played a game which is like that. (I don’t know if there is one but not to my knowlege). From the minutes which I played I would say that the game maybe would get boring after a while. Maybe add some random events to it? Like for example maybe add a coin system and with coins you can buy in-game items for example a black grenade which you could throw at others or something like that. Other then that I really like the game.

Thank you for your feedback. This game is not finished yet and I will take all feedback into consideration, I am currently building a market place where the gems you can collect will unlock items. But I will consider adding another currency instead as it will give a second purpose to the game.

This game i very unique and I like the concept, the GUI is simple but clean, and with people I think it would be a fun,but I think you should add.
a difficulty system to your levels so you can choose easy, medium and hard and when it’s in hard mode dying has more consequences like you get less stamina or there’s more blocks.Idk something like that.

and when the game tells you something it should be somewhere in the comers not in the middle of the screen (unless its a tutorial) and the yellow text doesn’t really fit well with the game

I also think you should create somewhat of a small hub since the title screen to me feels kinda like a clutter or you could just redesign the main screen.

(The main screen isn’t that bad it just needs some improvement)

Thank you, both of your comments so far are making me lean towards making a Hub. I will be pushing some more players onto the game soon, just want to get it to the best state I can, Hope to see you playing when I do

Likely has another few weeks, depending on feedback, but its greatly appreciated.

As a side note, I have been watching some players play and it seems they did not understand the buttons so I have tried to make it as obvious as possible. The Yellow center text is what I settled with, however do you think people would pay attention to text on the side of the screen?

I think if you find some way to make the text eye catching then I believe that they would.but its always best to expermint and find out what works.

Thank you, I won’t be able to fix till Sunday. But will be the first thing I do.

This looks great, I’m getting nintendo and run vibes from this, anyway I can’t wait to see the finalized product that you manage to complete. I’m honestly very excited for the upcoming final released product of Phase-Shift. Well, anyway You’ve done a fantastic job so far, Keep up the great work and good luck on your game🙂

Hi Doodle,

I have added a Hub to the game, but it is still being worked on.
Also added objectives, Easter eggs, in game currency, rewards and collectibles. Taken a little while but has deployed a basic version of each to start with.
