Hello, I am the owner of Piechart Studios and the creator of an asymmetrical 1v8 game Lots of Mind.
Me and my team are working really hard on it, however we don’t have any players playing it besides the update date (and still, it has to be really massive) and then they stop joining it until the new update, basically we’re in a loop where we need to make massive updates for the game which is making question me what’s wrong with the game?
We have tried to advertise it via social media such as TikTok and YouTube, collaborating with other games, however we gained almost no gain in CCU or our fan base. I’m really disappointed in this and I’m looking into cancelling my game even with all that effort going to waste.
Even if new players join the game, they still leave after 2-5 minutes. I’m really confused why they leave so early. We added information for our characters however still this happens.
My developers pointed out on “lack of quality”, and I agree but I can’t find the cause of it, is it animations, model, something entirely else? Please help me out. I’m really losing my hope in this game with each day more and more.
I just want to say the problem is nothing to do with the “lack of quality” it’s built to a very high level in terms of front end, very well done.
There is a few reasons why this game is getting low playtime
List:
Objective/Clarity, when I started I had no clue what to do, I knew I had to escape/dodge the character but I had no idea how to, the map is very small so the player assumes it isn’t a game of hide and seek. Rainbow friends is a great example, when the player starts there is a clear objective of what to do.
Prioritised quality over game idea: A clear misconception is a games success comes from high quality front end such as cool textures etc this is a bonus but very far from the truth, grow a garden is a perfect example robloxs top game and the map looked like a monkey built it. It comes from quality of the main loop, the player needs a short term rush and a long term goal.
My advice is look at the top games in this genre and see how they do things
PS: Great example was I didn’t know you could sprint until you told me even if 10% of players don’t know it really impacts gameplay simple things like this really add up
Overall the quality is unreal however you just need to focus on making it clear as day for the player
Thanks for your feedback! We truly appreciate it.
We will make a tutorial for new players, the lack of any clarity is because our target audience is people who are experienced in asymmetrical games such as Forsaken and Die of Death. We will try to target non-experienced players more
We don’t understand how other games in our genre do things, we are trying to do things like the other games, but we still don’t gain the fan base and quality.
There are 3 maps in this game, and the map you played at (Skid School) is the smallest one. We should probably do vote system but that would be unfair for Anomalies due to players choosing a map that’s bad for one Anomaly.
We will probably add keybinds HUD of some sort for new players that is able to disabled in the settings.
Sort of a late reply, but I feel like one of the reasons players might be leaving is because you simply cannot play the game until more people join
Unless it just so happens that multiple people join at the same time, you have to wait a bunch of time (during which people get bored and leave)
A few possible solutions would be to run a decently large ad so that multiple people are likely to join at the same time, or to add something to do while waiting (for example, bots), although I don’t think any of these choices are exactly convenient to do
A tutorial as you mentioned would probably be helpful since it would atleast give the players an idea of how the game is without having to wait for a round to start, which would increase the likelyhood that they find it worthwhile to wait for people to join
